Book Description

1983. A Razorblade Boy, lead singer with an obscure industrial band. A Dead Girl, a wandering, bruised waif living on the edge of madness. One’s the voice of youth - the other, the mother of the next Savior of the human race.

But there’s a problem – the Dead Girl was only meant to produce the Savior, not fall in love with the Razorblade Boy. That means trouble for All-God – catastrophic trouble, with cosmic repercussions. The Dead Girl, All-God’s most beloved and most damaged of all his creations, becomes a beacon of assault for all those beings of Light and unLight, and her fall into spiritual decline threatens to unleash forces beyond even the comprehension of the most enlightened human.

The Angels of the Apocalypse are standing in the wings, just waiting for the trigger.... the Razorblade Boy or the Savior – which is it to be?

***Warning*** Before you purchase this book please be aware that Let It Bleed is an extremely controversial religious/gothic horror story. Written in the haunting prose associated with the Mythpunk genre of speculative fiction, the story unfolds in myth and adds elements of postmodern fantastic techniques such as urban fantasy, confessional poetry, non-linear storytelling, linguistic calisthenics, and academic fantasy – this book is not for people who are easily offended when religion or religious topics are questioned or confronted. Please do NOT purchase this book if you were at all disturbed by the DaVinci Code or The Passion of Christ's revelations. However if you like your fiction to challenge your world views and force you to think on a higher plane, read on...

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! December 30, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
What a KILLER story! Expertly crafted from lush, dense prose, "Let It Bleed will take you away. Imagine the literary bastard child of Anne rice and Jack Kerouac (conceived with Patti Smith jamming in the background) and you might have some idea where you're going, but you'll still be blown away once you get there. Between the bold originality and flawless execution of Stephanie Schmitz's writing (appropriately visceral at times, pleasantly ethereal at others) and the host of unforgettable characters, hurtling though a perfectly chaotic narrative, this book will leave you sated like a great meal or a night with the love of your life.

Indeed, LET IT BLEED!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Intensely Visual Melange December 22, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
I really enjoyed this novel and it was a great fit for me. So what makes it a great fit? It combines a variety of themes, some esoteric, such as Gnosticism, Lovecraft's mythos, and 80's punk and goth culture with some bold descriptive passages. Each chapter has its own feel and purpose. Some move the plot along an arc of increasing intensity to the end, some offer first person thoughts of the main character, and some are surreal or hallucinatory. If you like heavily descriptive, stream of consciousness, Gothic novels with a bit of 80's punk nostalgia and a heavy dose of literary references, mysticism and mythology, then this novel would be a good fit for you too. I'd love to see this story on film-if it is even possible. Fun stuff.

4.0 out of 5 stars Industrial Savior... June 20, 2011
Format:Paperback
Basically a goth-re-telling of the Gospel, S.L. Schmitz's LET IT BLEED takes place in the early 80s in middle America, in the middle of an already established post-punk/industrial music scene (there's references to countless bands in the early chapters).

A young, drug-addicted punk known as "The Dead Girl" is pregnant with the Messiah while her boyfriend ("The Razorblade Boy") sings for a a punk band (and doesn't exactly treat her like the new Mother of God). Described as having a voice that's "producing a tune so bereft of romance, erotic to the point of suicide," Razorblade Boy quickly becomes the most interesting character here, although everyone in Schmitz's dark, moody novel managed to come alive in their own unique ways (and while there's many, Schmitz wisely keeps the tale focused on a chosen few).

LET IT BLEED's strength is in its poetic prose; there's certain sentences (and even entire sections) that I re-read not only to get what the author was trying to say, but to enjoy the beauty of the wording. Whether describing the scene in a crowded night club, demons contemplating their eternal struggle with Christ, or The Dead Girl's love for her abusive boyfriend, Schmitz makes it all read like a poem spawned from the collective auras of Peter Murphy's lyrics and the short stories of Samuel R. Delany (in particular, Delany's "Aye, And Gomorrah" from his classic collection, DRIFTGLASS).

With endless scenarios that are simultaneously beautiful and horrific, and a heartbreaking conclusion that left me wanting more, LET IT BLEED is a sure-fire hit for anyone into music or religion-based dark fiction (just make sure to take the time to read this slowly...there's much going on and Schmitz gives much food for thought).

More About the Author

My name is S.L. Schmitz. I live in North Carolina with my husband and son. Dark Continents Publishing has released the second edition of "Let It Bleed". In addition, I have short stories in several anthologies including "Phobophobia" and "Bloody Parchment, Volume One".

Some of you may recall a serialized digital novel I had in publication in 2011-2012 called "Mina's Daughter: The Harker Chronicles". Due to some serious legal no-no's that the published did towards myself and numerous other authors and artists, I have voluntarily pulled that novel from the market. I hope to re-release the finished novel it in 2013. I will keep you posted!
