I like punching the steering wheel while driving when it crescendos. Just makes me feel better.

The Foo Fighters have always been a much-loved staple of modern rock, and with their best overall record yet, the foos are fighting for more. This is their latest song to take over modern rock with a never-ending vengence. The song starts off well enough, and with its repitition, it builds, starting slow, before becoming a screamo fest. Maybe a little restraint was needed here?
The song starts off slow enough, then starts its climb to a medium tempo, which seems perfect for the song. Then it starts rockin' out, and I'm still digging it. And then, Grohl gets angry about something, and I mean real angry, like he should take anger management classes. It's still the same thing, but now his anger has built from slow, to simmering, to boil, to boil over, and something short of a screamo fest. While ok the first or second time out, it gets tiring to hear the end after the fifth or sixth time. And just to let you know, I don't care much for screaming in my music, except on very rare occasions, and the Foo seems to do this a lot, which tends to annoy me. Overall, an interesting song from the Foo. The song comes off as a metaphor for anger, which gets rather angry at the end. So cut off the last 30 seconds of the song, and I'm ok with it. As is, this is a song which wore out its welcome on modern rock a few weeks ago. Real Score: 3.5 |
