Biography

Sometimes the best way to deal with a break-up is to write a batch of great songs about it, turn up the amplifiers and just rock out.

Think of enduring classics – from Liz Phair’s Exile In Guyville to Nine Inch Nails’ Pretty Hate Machine to Beck’s Sea Change – and how they achieved musical catharsis from the crumbling walls and crossbeams of a relationship ... Read more in Amazon's Relient K Store

Editorial Reviews

Album Description

2007 holiday album from the Alternative Christian rockers. From the glory of 'Handel's Messiah' and 'Angels We Have Heard On High' to the goofiness of 'I'm Gettin' Nuttin' For Christmas' and 'Santa Claus Is Thumbin' To Town', this yuletide album captures the many sides the season...and of Relient K. Includes 10 holiday classics and six self-penned songs for the season. Capitol.

The punnily-titled Let It Snow Baby… Let It Reindeer has much to offer fans of the band as well as listeners in search of an untraditional approach to Christmas music. Much of the material here was already released as their first holiday outing, 2003's Deck the Halls, Bruise Your Hand. Those ten tunes were a fun, indie spin on yuletide tunes by the feisty new kings of Christian pop-punk. Appended to those, we now have seven more songs recorded in 2007. In the intervening four years, the band's signed to Capitol Records and their sound is far more produced and polished. It's also clearly better, but what the group lacked for in talent early on, they made up for in spirit. The newer songs are all solid, and they really highlight how far Matt Thiessen has come as a frontman. The walking bass line to their version of "Sleigh Ride" might sound uninspired, but the tightly-wound Beach Boys-ish harmonies and explosive guitars more than make up for that. --Mike McGonigal

This CD is one of my favorite Christmas CD's.

It has a good mix of original songs with classic Relient K writing along classic Christmas songs that are done in the "relient k" style.

Ever year I love listening to this Christmas album and this year I finally bit the bullet and purchased the CD to have in my car.

I love Relient K. Hands-down, my favorite band of all time. Their music is fantastic.

My fanboyisms aside, I sadly have to rate this one with just four stars, as most of the songs on this album are just rehashes from their "Deck The Halls, Bruise Your Hand" album. There are a select few new tracks ('Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas', 'Sleigh Ride', 'Merry Christmas, Here's To Many More'), and they're amazing. They fit perfectly into Relient K's style (following their Five Score and Seven Years Ago album) and are very good. And a FYI: 'In Like A Lion (Always Winter)' is from their Apathetic EP album, so it also is from an older album. The other tracks are still good, but fit their old punk style (much more upbeat).

The songs mesh nicely, and all have a wonderful Christmas theme to them.

This album goes from fast pop-punk ('12 Days of Christmas') to mellow ('In Like A Lion (Always Winter)', 'Merry Christmas, Here's To Many More'), and in between (like the down right silly 'Good King Wenceslas,' which is labeled as an Untitled Track on Amazon's track listing). All around, I'd very much recommend this album, even if you're not a Relient K fan.

I'm new-ish to Relient K, heard their Christmas song "12 Days of Christmas" for the first time on a local Christian radio station this morning and knew I had to have the album. (Gotta love MP3 downloads). The whole album is great - previous reviewers have stated some of the songs were on other albums but I don't have any others so no worry for me! The album is a great mix of sounds.. some are more mellow and some are just so full of energy and fun that I know my kids are going to love them! Their passion for the music they sing is apparent in every note!

This album is great! If you like Christmas music and if you like Relient K, then you'll love this album. There is a nice variety of music, with mellow, beside-the-fireplace songs and fun, fast-paced songs. And there's plenty of music with seventeen songs on there!

This CD is mostly made up of Christmas songs remade with Relient K style, which is awesome! There are also a few Relient K Christmas originals which are beautiful and inspiring. I highly recommend this CD.

On the other hand, if you have Relient K's old Christmas CD, then be very cautious of buying this CD. I was really hoping for a lot of new stuff but this CD is mostly a cashcow and there are only a handful of new songs on this CD. If you're like me, then you've gotta have every Relient K CD, which I why I bought the CD anyway.

This CD would have been rated 5 stars if it wasn't mostly a rehash. Unfortunately, it was mostly a rehash so I had to rate it 4 stars. Don't get me wrong. If you don't have the old CD, buy this. You will not be dissapointed. But, if you have the old one, be very cautious, because you very well could be dissapointed.

For fans of Relient K this album is a real treat. It has a good mix of original songs with classic Relient K writing along classic Christmas songs that are done in the "relient k" style. If you are a fan pick this one up.

My only complaint about this album is it almost feels like there are two different bands here. Many of these songs are from a previous Christmas EP and they are mixed with tracks that were recorded last year. Personally I thought early Relient K was fun but I wasn't a fan but I really became a fan when they released the album "mmhmm" which was released in 2004. WIth that album their writing became much more mature and their sound became more honed in. Every album since I have enjoyed more than the prior one. So with this album I really like the new tracks and if it was an EP of all their new music I would rate it with 5 stars. So with this album I end up enjoying the new stuff and tolerating the old.

Next to Charlie Brown, this is a must have for your Christmas collection, because if you listen to any Christmas album nowadays, they all seem the same, no deph, no substance, what you see is what you get, and what you've heard a million times before. This album on the other hand, defies all conventional Christmas music logic, because I guarantee you Harry Connick Jr. never put out a song that had lyrics like, "Rudolph's puking ball of holly, and ole St. Nick ain't all that jolly."

For those of you who are long-time Relient K fans, and got their Deck The Halls CD back in the day (a few years ago), you already have half the album. Unfortunately, I became a fan like most, after listening to MMHMM, therefore, we never had a copy of the CD, I had listened to most of it in various places, but it still remains one the most elusive Relient K Cd's I don't have. So, the packaging together benefits people like me who did not own the previous CD.

The first song off this album might not be the most eye-catching song off the album, but it's nice in it's own little way. "Sleigh Ride" is great on this album, but even better live with the whole experience the band creates for the audience. The song starts off a little jazzy and slow, than to its normal pace, than it rockets toward the finish in true Relient K fashion.

Song like "12 Days of Christmas," "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" are what made their first Christmas album such a success, amazingly Christmas music seems to be the only time of the year when rock is not openly welcomed, well, that's not the case here. These songs are short punk-rock styled Christmas classics, and they work brilliantly. Why hasn't anybody done this before?
