1.0 out of 5 stars What a waste of my time! January 21, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
In my short time as part of the Kindle Clan, I have come to the conclusion that one of two things happen with certain books :
1: Either the author creates bogus Amazon accounts and gives themselves glowing reviews. or
2: Family and friends feel obliged to give good reviews for books they have,(or more likely) have not read.

I say becuase clearly I really question if any of the previous reviewers have even read this book?

I knew something was amiss when I read the following
"The salty air and the smell of wild gress grew stronger as they carried on. The landscape in northeastern Ohio was breathaking,"

I am not from the USA, but EVEN I know that Ohio is not on the coast of an ocean, but on the great lakes - fresh water lakes! How do you put "salty air" and "Ohio" in the same paragraph?

Further, the time line is totally inconsistant. To my understanding the book takes place over a period of 7 - 10 days, but they are "these past few months have some of the happiest of my life"!

Too many other things to mention - and it's frankly not worth the time!

I am at least happy about two things:

1: This book was free - I would have been seriously anoyed had I paid for it.
2: This book was short - so although I persevered out of morbid facination - it did not steal too much of my life!

4.0 out of 5 stars ENJOYABLE BUT NEEDED TO BE LONGER September 27, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The book starts out on a happy note but then quickly turns sad. Only a woman who has lost her beloved husband can understand the heartache and the feelings this kind of tragedy brings. Especially when she has children to care for.

The time line had me slightly confused when she falls happily asleep and just married, then wakes up to being a widow with 2 children. Would have made a wonderful story to explore her married life and death of her husband. Another thing that confused me was the mention of an escaped horse "being down by the reef, munching on sea grass and looking out to sea". Near Ohio is one of the Great Lakes, which are fresh water. So the horse could not have been eating sea grass nor looking out to sea. This would have made anyone who has lived in the Midwest scratch their head.

I wish the story could have had a smoother ending. It ended happily but too abruptly. All in all it was a very quaint story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amish books April 4, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was just telling my neighbour how much I have enjoyed the Amish books that I have read.
The simple life, (I can still remember as a child) was the best years of my life. Not like today a family was a family held together.

4.0 out of 5 stars Truthfulness and honesty April 19, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Good story line , but it wanted me to know what happened in the marriage that it didn't work. Why does he feel this time it will work? Why not bring the whole family to meet the uncle?
