4.0 out of 5 stars Stacy is my "Britney".
I was about 14 when this album came out and I remember wanting to be a music star like her. I am not comparing Stacy to Britney in the vain of the way she carries herself. Unfortunately, Britney is not doing very well in that department. Rather, what I mean is when I was young, she was to me what Britney was to her young following back in 1999.

3.0 out of 5 stars Stacy Lattisaw - Let Me Be Your Angel
Though I was not a fan of Stacy Lattisaw at the time the original vinyl album was released, I thought I'd give the CD a try when it became available as a reissue in 1991.

As far as the music goes, Lattisaw's music was fun dance pop and R&B much like Britney's was on her first three cds. Lattisaw's music would take on more edge later on in her Motown years (Nail it to the Wall). Dynamite was Lattisaw's first hit, an uptempo and funk-R&B dance number. Had it been around today, it would surely have been remixed despite it's already being dancable. Clocking in just past six minutes, this song had all the makings for a party jam. My favorite song, however is the title song "Let Me Be You Angel" which still makes it on the old-school sets. Trully an enduring love ballad for all time.

I don't want to sound like all the other bozos out there decrying "music of today". Music of today has great things to offer, but unfortunately with all the sexual and violent themes, I do wish more music like this was making it on the charts. Unfortunately, while it is out there (Mandy Moore, Debroah Gibson, Stacie Orrico) it is not making the charts and radio like it used to.

Though I was not a fan of Stacy Lattisaw at the time the original vinyl album was released, I thought I'd give the CD a try when it became available as a reissue in 1991.

Being already familiar with the urban radio breakthrough hit, "Dynamite!", I enjoyed the song more in the post era. Pop fans were introduced to the "teen angel" on the ballad and title track to the album, "Let Me Be Your Angel."

"Jump to the Beat" might have done as well as "Dynamite!" if it had been released as a single. The song was available as a single only in the U.K. (where it surpassed "Dynamite!" and reached no. 3 on the charts). "Don't You Want to Feel It (for Yourself)" and "You Know I Like It" are energetic numbers suited for the budding songstress.

A ballad worth mentioning from Lattisaw's second album is a down-tempo tune titled, "Dreaming." The listener can imagine Lattisaw's perspective when she sings the chorus in rhythmic style plucking away the petals of a daisy while chanting, "he loves me, he loves me not."

Lattisaw's success on the charts was synonymous with the rapport she had with her musical mentor, Narada Michael Walden. "Let Me Be Your Angel" was the first of five albums under Walden's musical production company, Perfection Light Productions, Inc.

Though I consider this her breakthrough album, it was certainly not her best effort. Put your money down on "With You" (1981) and "Sneakin' Out" (1982) instead.

I remember this album came out when I was in junior high school and it still remains one of my favorites. Produced by Narada Michael Walden in 1980 it went on to chart #44 U.S. Pop and #9 U.S. R&B. The Cd opens with the very danceable and catchy "Jump To The Beat", one of my personal favorites, followed by "Dynamite" which charted #8 U.S. R&B, #1 U.S. Dance, #51 in the U.K. and was mixed many times over by many DJs at discos and dance events all around the globe. "You Don't Love Me Anymore" is another dance tune that highlights Stacy's great vocals. The laid back ballard "Dreaming" with Nile Rodgers on guitar,is a great example of how Stacy was able to take a simple song and make it special.

"Let Me Be Your Angel" was one of the most popular ballards of 1980, no wonder it charted #8 on U.S. Pop and #8 on U.S. R&B. "Don't You Want To Feel It (For Yourself)" and "You Know I Like It" both have a very 80's dance sound but it worked for the time and even hearing them now makes you want to get up and dance. "My Love" is one of my favorite ballards and it's hard to believe that such a mature sound came from such a young talent of 13 years old.

I can't say enough about this album it is definitely one of my favorites. It does have more dance tracks than ballards but it still demonstrates Stacy's versatility. I recommend this to all Stacy Lattisaw fans and for those who may have heard her name but weren't familiar with her style. Stacy Lattisaw was highly underated despite her hits. Listening to her music makes me look back and marvel at what a talent she truly was. This is definitely a cd you will enjoy.

I love this CD, I had the record as a teenager and played it for hours on end. I even went so far as to purchase an outfit similiar to the one on the cover. If you are or were a Stacy Lattisaw fan, I would highly reccomend buying this CD as a collectors item in its own right.
