Unbelievable,
By TLC (New Jersey) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Let Me In (Paperback)
Okay, So I'm not yet finished with the book, but I can't wrap my head around how completely Tate finally reconciles having sex with Derek when she's spent 3/4's of the book pushing him away and now they are in love?
Give me a break. The only reason I have not put the book down is because I'd like to find out what's the story with CJ. The relationship between Tate and Derek is unbelievable, far fetched and based on a need for sex, which doesn't happen until well into the book. At first I thought Derek would be a great alpha male character, but he turns out to be as whimpy as the guy on the cover looks . It's hard to imagine either character in any espionage role. Neither has much backbone. Some interesting banter at times, but that's all. Save your money cause the $14 I spent was a lot to spend on a sub average book.

What can happen to the agent who gets out of the game!,
This review is from: Let Me In (Paperback)
I finished Let Me In last night and couldn't put it down `till I was done. I really enjoyed the book. Both characters, Tate and Derek, were interesting, well developed, empathetic and I adored both of them. CJ's character was brilliant, as a contrast to who Tate might have become, making Tate's story even more compelling. One rarely reads about the agent who got out of the game. There was steadily building suspense through the book, even though there was not a lot of actual action, which is fine by me. The focus was clearly more on what the characters were feeling and thinking, their problem solving for both their internal and external challenges, rather than a lot of frantic action, yet it still held the suspense. It was not rife with dead bodies either... I loved the Epilogue...it satisfied me. The whole hotel scene with Derek's fake mustache and wig and stuff was in character and fun. It brought you back emotionally after the seriousness of the denouement. The author nicely crafted the technical solution to the dilemma, the media and attorney general, along with the video tape of Mank, all said in a few short sentences. Very tight and well crafted storyline. And the banter was just plain fun, especially the closing of the epilogue. I really, really enjoyed this book. Well done! Another special book for my Donna Kauffman shelf!

The first pages of this book were great...held my attention but quickly went to tedious details. I began skipping pages and could follow the story. Not a good read.

I found this book to be very exciting. I have enjoyed many of Donna Kauffmans books and the one thing that I find when she writes suspense is that I can never figure out the ending. She always has a twist that makes me excited to see what it is this time. As always she did it again with this one. I can't wait for her next book.

What a disappointment!,

I usually love Donna Kauffman books but was hughly disppointed in this one. Had two goes at reading it - first time gave up at about page 50 - second time at around 100. Nothing had happened - just convoluted dialogue and speculation about someone named CJ which was completely boring. I do enjoy suspense novels but they have to actually have some suspense and a lot of action - this had neither. Please Donna go back to your usual style of book - they are some of my favourites.

Don't waste your money unless...,
This review is from: Let Me In (Paperback)
you like one long circle of a convoluted conversation that lasts half of the book. And that in the end, didn't really amount to much in terms of the overall story progression. Very little in the way of story regarding the relationship of the two main characters. I finished the book only because it was the only book I had while on vacation (note to self - bring more books or invest in kindle)
Overall I thought this book sucked! - Potential Spoiler Alert - 1/2 of book spent on conversation about why Derek was beat up and has landed on Tate's door 1/3 of book spent on conversation about how Tate's "dead" partner, CJ, is still alive 1/6 of book spent on Derek and Tate's relationship 3/6 of book spent on getting to CJ and resolution of spy story

I didn't even finish it,

Considering I paid an arm and a leg for this book (which I don't mind doing if its a well written, page turner), I was very disappointed in this book. The book started off well with potential, but I couldn't stand it after a while. The author goes on tangents on detail, the dialogue is sometimes hard to follow and the relationship somewhat unbeleiveable. Come on... after one kiss they're meant to be together as soul mates? Don't think so. It also seems the author was trying to use words she just learned, and it didn't fit well into the book. I didn't even finish the book I was so tired of endless pages of thoughts and emotions, reading through the smut wasn't worth it for me. I hope other enjoy the book more.

Not her best, but readable,
This review is from: Let Me In (Paperback)
I've really enjoyed some of Donna Kauffman's stories, and not finished others. I gave this one 3 stars because, while not her best work, it was engaging enough to keep me reading. I think the biggest weakness of the book is that she used too many words - spent way too much time detailing every thought and feeling of the two main characters. It almost seemed like a sort of third-person stream-of-consciousness that too easily became tedious. What kept me reading was the dialogue. The interactions between Tate and Derek were fun and often snappy, and even quite touching at times. I also would say the plot was not terribly strong, but given how hard it must be to write espionage with true authenticity, I'd say she did all right.
On a side note, having read the other reviews here, I'm beginning to wonder if Ms. Klausner even reads the books she reviews; "CJ" is a she, not a he, a rather central fact that's hard to miss at any point in this novel...

I thought the story was ridiculous. It took the characters too long to actually meet. By the time they did, I was bored and didn't care any more.

exciting romantic suspense,
This review is from: Let Me In (Paperback)
Former covert operative Tate Winslow is placed in the witness protection program where her new identity is novelist Tara Wingate residing in Hebron Valley, Virginia. She wants nothing to do with her past having witnessed her partner CJ shot dead. However, her former boss at the agency Derek Cole arrives insisting CJ is alive and needs their help.
She has problems with Derek's claim as she saw CJ killed, which is why she left the guns behind her three years ago. Derek explains the agency refuses to rescue an agent in trouble so he has gone rogue in order to save CJ. Each tries to ignore the attraction between them. However, both Tara and Derek question whether saving CJ is wise as each wonders if he could be a traitor betraying his country as a double agent. This is an exciting romantic suspense thriller from the moment Derek comes back into Tara's life. The story line is fast-paced, but the action is overwhelmed by the second chance romance between the former agent and the rogue operative. Fans will wonder whether CJ is alive and if yes is he a traitor? Harriet Klausner |
