5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful and emotional read!
I received this wonderful book as a Christmas gift. It is written truly from the HEART! And whenever I read it, it felt like I had written it straight from MINE. I could not keep from tearing up. 2.0 out of 5 stars Let me hold you longer
I love Karen Kingsbury but I did not care for this book. For one thing I bought it for my grandaughter and it seemed to be geared more towards a boy, which needs to be expressed. I was disappointed in this one.

I received this wonderful book as a Christmas gift. It is written truly from the HEART! And whenever I read it, it felt like I had written it straight from MINE. I could not keep from tearing up. It sends such a wonderful reminder message to us that our children do not stay little forever. Even though we all know that, we tend to get busy with day-to-day life and let the little things slip away with time. One important thing this book points out is that we tend to have pictures and records of important FIRSTS of our children, but we don't have those for the LASTS, because we never know when the last time they do something is going to come, and we're not looking for the lasts, as we look for the firsts. I could go on and on about this beautifully written and illustrated book, but you need to read it for yourself. I'm sure your heart will be touched as mine, and you will feel like Karen Kingsbury looked deep into YOUR heart and wrote down everything she saw.

5.0 out of 5 stars What more can I say?, May 12, 2006

I don't know that I can add much to what other reviewers of this book have stated so eloquently, but I loved the book so much that I wanted to add my two cents. I bought the book two days ago at a book fair, and as I read it out loud (along with its very moving introduction) to my husband on our drive home from work that day, I was so choked up I couldn't even get the words out. Not only is the book perfectly rhymed (bad rhyming is such a pet peeve of mine!), but it touched me more deeply than any other book I have ever read as a parent. Most importantly, it makes me appreciate even more all of the wonderful things my two-year-old son and one-year-old daughter do and say every day. It also gave me a "preview" of so many precious moments still to come. I am ordering multiple copies to give as gifts, because this very special book must be shared! Thank you, Karen. I look forward to getting my hands on your other books as soon as possible.

5.0 out of 5 stars So Touching!, March 31, 2006
This review is from: Let Me Hold You Longer (Hardcover)
I have loved and read most all of Karen's books. She touches my heart in a way other books don't.

We became grandparents over a year ago and when I read about this book I knew it would be one I had to get for my daughter and grandson. I read it as soon as I got it and had moist eyes all the way through. My daughter loves it also.

The book talks about not firsts in a childs life but lasts. Last time to be picked up and held as a child. Last day to take a bottle, etc. It is poignant.

I will continue to read Karen's books and admire her as a wife, mother and auther.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a precious book to share with your son..., April 20, 2006
This review is from: Let Me Hold You Longer (Hardcover)
This book came highly recommened to me by a friend of mine. Upon reading the book for the first time, I had NO idea what an array of emotions would flood my thoughts. This is sweet book that reminds us moms how quickly our children grow up and how we should not only be reminded of the "firsts", but be blessed by the "last." A must for any mommy of that has been blessed with a son.
Happy Reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, October 10, 2004

Very touching book. An excellent reminder to enjoy our children while they are little and to not be in such a hurry to have them grow up. I personally have it sitting around more as a reminder to myself than a book that I read to my children, however I have read it to my children and they did enjoy looking at the attractive illustrations.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful, rhyming picturebook, November 5, 2004
This review is from: Let Me Hold You Longer (Hardcover)
Let Me Hold You Longer is a beautiful, rhyming picturebook about the all too transitory joys of childhood and growing up. Warm, playful color illustrations add depth to the wistful verses that are a joy to read aloud to young ones. "The last piano lesson, / last vacation to the lake. / Your last few weeks of middle school, / last soccer goal you make. // I look ahead and dream of days / that haven't come to pass. / But as I do, I sometimes miss / today's sweet, precious lasts...

5.0 out of 5 stars MADE ME CRY, May 31, 2006
This review is from: Let Me Hold You Longer (Hardcover)
This book was given to me by my mother for Mother's Day. This book made me cry unabashadly. It made me think of my little boy's firsts (he is 4 years old). And it also made me cry for the firsts of my little girl (10 months old). This book will make you stop and appreciate each moment that you have with your children.
A wonderful by for any mother!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Let Me Hold You Longer, December 1, 2005

This review is from: Let Me Hold You Longer (Hardcover)
My son's second grade teacher sent the book home for me to read to him for a read aloud. As I began to read I could feel the tears welling up. This story is beautifully told in rhyme which my son loved. It really makes you think about the importance of appreciating life now.My son has been a hand full to raise and then there are the moments that only a parent can appreciate- the whisper of " I love you" when you kiss him good night or the sad sigh and whispered prayer when he sees a dead animal on the side of the road. This book makes you take a look at the child God has blessed you with and to appreciate the little moments that will soon be gone as he matures into adulthood.
The pictures are delightful as well. I especially loved the one of the young boy holding a flower - root and all- and handing it to his mother. An all too familiar scene that many can appreciate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Especially for moms, March 18, 2006
This review is from: Let Me Hold You Longer (Hardcover)
I came across this book in the children's section of a book fair, but I think it would have been wonderful in the adult
section for moms. It is sweet and sentimental all at the same time as a reminder of how quickly childhood flys by us all.
Get it while you can still read it with your children.

5.0 out of 5 stars My New Gift to New Mothers and Mothers-to-Be, March 12, 2006
This review is from: Let Me Hold You Longer (Hardcover)
This is my new baby shower gift for new mothers. The illustrations are great and the story is wonderful. In a nutshell the book talks about how we always celebrate the firsts but never the lasts of events. For example the last time you gave your child a bottle. I just gave this book to a friend who is having her first baby and she loved it.
