Book Description

January 12, 2009
Kevin and Cheryl have the perfect marriage (or so we think) from the outside looking in. Kevin, reviled as a distinguished businessman, even bestowed the honor of “premier black businessman of the year.” But beyond the public eye is a man hiding a secret that could threaten what he has accomplished. Cheryl, devoted and supportive wife, puts on a good front. The man she vowed to love forever reveals his other self. Cheryl wonders what she can do differently. Kevin wonders how she could be so selfish. Suffering in silence, Cheryl is hesitantly awakened by a soft and gentle voice. Kevin is excitedly renewed by someone who “understands” him. Will Cheryl come to her senses? Will Kevin leave her? Will Cheryl keep settling and finally see her worth? Will Kevin get the life he feels he deserves, or will they be around to see what they have been missing?

More About the Author

B. Swangin Webster continues to birth her characters and is continuously amazed at how "life-like" they become. They all vie for her attention and will "talk" to her at the most inopportune times.

In 2008, after encouragement from her oldest daughter, B. Swangin Webster dived in head first into the deep end of the publishing world. Although she wasn't a graceful swimmer, she quickly adapted, when Publish America threw her a life jacket and told her to swim over to their company. Her debut novel; Let Me Just Say This was published less than three weeks after submission in November of 2008.

While basking in the glow of having her first novel published, she quickly realized that being an author was something that she had always dreamed of. She also realized that the sequel to Let Me Just Say This, was already written. She had to trim down her debut novel and what was left over, is now the novel; And Again...Let Me Say This. This novel was released in October 2009, less than a year after her debut novel hit the book stores.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tcb's Review, September 27, 2011
This review is from: Let Me Just Say This (Paperback)
I must say the author did a good job of telling the story of a woman in an abusive relationship. The story had me getting mad at Cheryl for not having Kevin arrested or leaving him sooner. And Kevin, the way he would flip the situation of what he was doing on to Cheryl, never admitting his own fault. But like most abusive men, they get shook when a man steps to them and funny how their hands don't raise up as quick as they do when they around the women they abuse. I like how the kids were not igorant of the fact of what was going on in the house. I like how the son knew and would talk to mom to not take the abuse she was enduring. The way he stood up to his father in the hospital was excellent. Stuff like that can teach young males that this is normal to treat a woman and they grow up to do the same thing. I glad he saw this is not what a man is suppose to do so he won't do the same when he is in a relationship. Also the daughter knew it was wrong. Hopefully when she grows up she won't fall in the same cycle as her mom did which happens a lot with young girls who grow up watching their mothers getting abuse by their father, they pick the same kind of man who will do the same to them. I give it up to the author. She hit home with a lot of points in this novel and I look forward to reading the sequel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Let Me Just Say This Back, February 16, 2010

This review is from: Let Me Just Say This (Paperback)
Cheryl and Kevin's marriage is volatile, to say the least. Kevin is lying, cheating and deceitful. Cheryl is the dutiful wife who puts up with it all. She even makes excuses for his abuse and finds a way to blame herself. Throughout the story, the reader gets to experience the beat-downs that Cheryl suffers at the hands of Kevin. At times, it's almost too gruesome to read.

It's hard to say if Cheryl remains in the relationship for her two children, or if her self-esteem is so low that she feels she deserves the abuse.

Sadly, I could not relate to any of the characters in LET ME JUST SAY THIS. The way Kevin is portrayed in the telling of this story doesn't make me think he's redeemable.

Overall this was a good book with some minor editing issues. However, the errors did not take away from the story. I would recommend that the author expands on this book instead of making it a sequel because it was kind of short.

3.0 out of 5 stars A better understanding of abuse, October 2, 2009
This review is from: Let Me Just Say This (Paperback)
The first thing I noticed when reading this was in every abusive relationship that I know of, some of things in the book confirmed. I found it interesting how the writer/narrator went back and forth in her past/present, but while doing this, she ended up switching from first to third person, and that could be confusing. I think there was enough written to make you like and hate certain characters. It's not always easy to leave someone you love even when they hurt you..."Isn't in strange how those that are closest to us hurt is the most?" A quote of mine that I live by, yet, they can't if we're not with them right? I am looking forward to the sequel to see if the writer can grow from this one. As an author, just know everybody isn't going to love your work, & everyone isn't going to hate it....So don't focus too much on a bad review...I enjoyed nonetheless.
