I've been waiting for this album to be remastered for years. This is one of the best dance album of the 80s. Plus, you get all the remixes. I'm overjoyed with the sound quality. It can't get any better. If I were you, I would purchase this album before it goes out of print.o1. Let The Music Play 3:35 02. Sweet Somebody 4:41 03. Someone Waiting Home 4:35 04. Give Me Tonight 6:07 05. My Heart's Divided 4:27 06. It's You 4:02 07. One Man 3:44 (Finally, this is without the bad disortion found on her greatet hits album, "Let The Music Play: The BEST OF Shannon" ) 08. Let The Music Play [Re-Mix] 6:03 Bonus Tracks 09. Sweet Somebody [Special Extended Version] 6:03 (Nice Mix) 10. Give Me Tonight [7 Inch Version] 3:53 (This is the album edit and not the actual 7" version, which I have on 45.) 11. Let The Music Play [12 Inch Version ] 5:45 12. My Hearts Divided [Remix] 4:55 {Very Rare Version) 13. Sweet Somebody [Dub Version] 5:16 (Great Mix) 14. Give Me Tonight [Dub Version] 6:08 (Finally, this version's on cd for the first time) 15. Let The Music Play [Dub Version] 6:11 (This version is very rare. It was only found on the 12" Single.) Again, I would get this along with and "Do You Wanna Get Away" ablum, asap!!!!

I already have the old album since the late 80's. Thought I would never be able to find the original album on CD. And on Amazon, there it was. Cool. Was pleased that the CD included the 12 inch version of "Let the Music Play" and "Give Me Tonight" as well as radio versions (as well as a couple of versions of "My Heart's Divided"). It came in excellent condition. Truly a classic.

I finally found the remix that was the 12" instrumental single. Me and my brother Danny used to kill this song. I am thrilled beyond words to have found this CD. The other songs by Shannon are great as well.

Shannon's "Let the music Play" was the first song to be deemed as "FREESTYLE" and is to date one of the most important albums of all time for the Old School genre and remains a favorite to all Old Schoolers. My favorite song on the album was "Give Me Tonight"...this was a crazy popular song back in the day about a guy who's beggin for 1 more night with his love after she tells him it's over...seriously this song is haunting and a bit deep for a dance song (and that's why i LOVE IT!!!). I recently had the chance to speak to Shannon and as expected she was a very humble, sweet lady. She is again touring showing off her 2 classic Old School/Freestyle hits. The sound of Shannon was ground breaking in the fact that ther was a lot of synthesisers, crazy dubbing and remixing never before heard. This was undoubtably a blueprint for where other Old School/ Freestyle artists would go with their songs...Love and Thanks to one of our Frrestyle Queens and true pioneer of dancefloor anthums...Shannon!!!

I usually love this album. The wonderful 80's dance tracks are truly amazing. However, this remastered edition isn't as good as people say. I think that the sound quality is bad. There are plenty of sound errors on the tracks. I would buy the 2004 compilation "Let The Music Play: The Best Of Shannon" instead, since some of the tracks are presented there, in much higher quality.

Representing both the revenge of disco and ground zero for freestyle music, you would think such a landmark album would be deserving of more substantial liner notes than a simple reprinting of the "thank yous" from the original LP. That's really the only thing this collection lacks, though. The sound is terrific, the beats are still hot almost 30 years on, and the inclusion of the original remixes and dubs make this a very essential purchase.

I read all the reviews about this CD before buying and the only thing I was afraid of was that songs would be different than those played in the radio (being that it's labeled as import#. Mind you, I got it because of two songs: Let the Music Play and Give Me Tonight. Well, I was not disappointed one bit. It has different versions #remixes) of these two songs and can't beat that. I used to collect/buy 12" vinyl records (singles and LPs) and never managed to get this one. For those who complain that it's wasn't a well-remastered copy, I think it's fine. I am not an expert but probably sounds the same or better than the vinyl record. I am really happy with it and feel even lucky to have come across it. Now it's part of my collection. :o)

She was one of the more underrated stars of the 80s. Favorite tracks on this album are "Let the Music Play" and "Sweet Somebody". Sweet Somebody is a song that you can replay over and over again without getting tired of it. Definitely smooth and full of energy.Let the Music Play was a big hit for Shannon. It's catchy and smart. So much fun to listen to. This was a typical 80's pop song that was real easy to dance to. This album is definitely recommended to all the Shannon fans as well as lovers of 80's pop Brenda "Shannon" Greene is an 80s Pop Diva with soul, style, and some very serious talent. |
