What's in the Bible? Episodes 1 & 2,
This review is from: Let My People Go! (DVD)
Confession: My children like to watch TV.But honestly, whose children do not? Not many that I've ever met. Since I know it's best to limit their viewing time, I do my best to only expose my children to shows that will affect them positively. And yes, I have to admit-- I want to halfway enjoy the shows, too. If your situation sounds similar to mine, then I've got a brand new DVD series from Tyndale House Publishers to recommend to your family. Through his tumultuous adventure with his highly popular creation, Veggie Tales, God took Phil Visher on a refining journey that has presently led him to a more narrow focus with his work- "to lead kids through the Bible and bring it to life for them." He feels the urgent call "to do something that can take our kids deeper into the Word and make their faith real." Thus giving us his latest and greatest series, "What's in the Bible." I recently had the opportunity to preview the first two titles in this new series, "In the Beginning" and "Let My People Go." Both episodes were fantastic! From a professional viewpoint, the production quality was top-notch. The content was creative and enjoyable, blending live action, puppetry and clean animation. A lot like "Emperor's New Groove" meets "Sesame Street." Some of my favorite characters included "Buck Denver," "Sunday School Lady" and "Chuck Wagon." I can't tell you how many times I literally laughed out loud at these guys. On top of being very entertaining, the videos are incredibly educational. They really get into some nitty-gritty, specific facts about the Bible and its history that I never knew or remembered. (I mean, I've never heard of the word "apocryphia"... Have you?!) I love that not a single minute of either episode was "cheesy" or contrived. This is QUALITY work! I'm excited to know that there is now material out there that my kids will actually ENJOY while learning about the best selling, most influential book of all time... the Holy Bible. The first two episodes in this series get 5 stars and 8 thumbs up from me and my family. These DVDs would be perfect for both a family movie night or homeschooling lesson. There's something for everyone at any age to learn and laugh about. We can't wait for the future "What's in the Bible?" videos to be released! *These dvds were provided to me at no cost by Tyndale House Publishers in order to facilitate my review. I was not required to provide a positive review, only an honest one. The viewpoints expressed in this review are my own.

I love this new series. It goes much much deeper than most Christian DVDs for kids. I was a little worried it would be too much info making it boring, but my kids LOVE it!

While at our Christian book store the first in this "What's in the Bilbe" DVD was playing in the children's section. My 8 and 9 year olds were memorized right away. A little while later when I was ready to leave they begged and pleaded to stay until the movie was over. That really caught my attendion. I picked up one of the DVD's to see what it was they were watching and so very pleased to see it was from the maker of Veggie Tales.I watched some of the DVD with them and decided after 3-4 minutes this was really, really good! I bought it and my girls watched it in the van on the way home. It was very frustrating to hear them watching it because I could hear most of it and really wanted to see it for myself. We watched again when we got home. After watching it several times we decided we really couldn't live without the second DVD "Let My People Go!" so we returned to the store and bought the second one. Which if possible is a little better than the first one. My heart sings to hear my girls ask if we can watch these DVDs again! I love to hear them singing the theme song and quoting lines from the movie. Our favorite is "You sold me?!" Watch the movie and see if you don't start using lines from it :o) I don't want to spoil any of the movie so I will just say, Great job Phil Vischer!!! Thank-you for using your God given talent to teach children important true facts of the Bible in a way they will understand and ALWAYS remember. This DVD actually gives the kids (and adults) "meat" to digest instead of just "milk". I teach the King's Kids (Children's Church) every Sunday. I look for ways to teach the children that God has trusted me with deep truths. I like my kids to get "meat" that will last them the rest of their lives. We are going to watch this DVD during King's Kids time. I am preparing lessons to go along with what we watch. After we are done I have bought each of my King's Kids this DVD to take home. Even I have learned several things from this DVD. It will be a great tool to send into the homes of these kids especially my kids that come from non-christian homes. I can't wait to see how God is going to use these DVDs!! After all His Word will not return void. All of my King's Kids took home the first one. Hurry up with number 3 Phil!

This seems like a good, creative way to teach children the Bible. I've read the other reviews, and no one else's younger kids seemed to find this series a little boring, but mine did. They are four and six and these DVDs were infomation overload for them. They kept waiting for the movie to start, when in actuality it had started. They got lost with all the talking the puppets were doing and were waiting for a Bible story to begin. What I watched of it though, I was impressed, and I've bought a DVD to keep for when they're a little older. This must just be my kids though, cause I see where even three year olds are enjoying this series!

We are huge Veggie Tales fans and were so excited to see Phil Vischer come out with this new product. My kids LOVE this! We put it in the car DVD player and when we pulled into the garage they did not want to get out of the car! So they sat in the garage in our car until the car battery died watching it! So it was definately a hit! This DVD covers topics such as - Who wrote the Bible? Who picked the books of the Bible? How do we know we can trust it? How do all of these stories fit together to tell ONE story? For more on this DVD including a sneak peak - just follow this link: [...] |
