Gentle, quiet, lovely read,

Aptly named. This novel has a great sense of quiet and gentleness about it. It's the story of a somewhat unlikely friendship that develops between two women in a village in Sweden. Olsson captures beautifully the mood of the seasons and the place. I found it engrossing although truthfully not a lot can be said to happen. But it's about a developing friendship that doesn't require major events to keep the story engaging. It's stayed with me longer than many books I read, and it's one I'll read again.
The US edition of this is titled Astrid and Veronika

One of the most beautiful books I have ever read. A remarkable sense of calm transports from author to the reader through Astrid and Veronika and their incredible journeys.I absolutely loved it.
