Book Description

March 5, 2013
A broken past and a divided future can’t stop the electric connection of two teens in this “charged and romantic” (Becca Fitzpatrick), lush novel.

Seventeen-year-old Vane Weston has no idea how he survived the category five tornado that killed his parents. And he has no idea if the beautiful, dark-haired girl who’s swept through his dreams every night since the storm is real. But he hopes she is.

Seventeen-year-old Audra is a sylph, an air elemental. She walks on the wind, can translate its alluring songs, and can even coax it into a weapon with a simple string of commands. She’s also a guardian—Vane’s guardian—and has sworn an oath to protect Vane at all costs. Even if it means sacrificing her own life.

When a hasty mistake reveals their location to the enemy who murdered both of their families, Audra’s forced to help Vane remember who he is. He has a power to claim—the secret language of the West Wind, which only he can understand. But unlocking his heritage will also unlock the memory Audra needs him to forget. And their greatest danger is not the warriors coming to destroy them—but the forbidden romance that’s grown between them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking, hilarious and fun! March 5, 2013
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Captivating, beautiful, and witty, Let the Sky Fall is the perfect mix of so many elements into one whirlwind book. There is so much humor and fun, even with the rougher aspects. From a sweet and totally awkward romance to an intense and even painful story, there is an honesty which completely enamored me from the start.

Vane is hilarious, ridiculous in his own way, and the kind of guy who doesn’t take things too seriously yet isn't totally useless either. He’s a bit lazy, but with the right thing to focus on, he’s intense and determined. One of my favorite things about him, though, despite his ever-present wit, is how different he is compared to many other guy characters in the genre. He’s relatable, he’s genuine and nice, he’s a bit clueless…he’s just so real, in that way of the guy who sits next to you in class, rather than the guy across the room who scares you as much as he intrigues you. I fell harder for him with every page. More than that, though, I loved watching him change and grow, watching him step up and face things that are really pretty scary and intimidating at times… and he doesn’t act totally fearless. He wears his emotions on his sleeve much of the time, and he isn't really ashamed of it either. Vane is just one of those characters who blows across the pages, as alluring as he is amusing, with a hint of a mess to him as well and I couldn’t get enough.

Then there’s Audra, with an airy, lyrical voice to her that is almost stoic at the start, yet morphs into something so different, and much more empathetic towards the end. She goes through tremendous changes of her own, as equally well done as Vane’s, and the interactions, and play offs between these two is easily my favorite part of this entire book. I love Audra for her loyalty to not only the Gales, but Vane specifically, and I love her for figuring out how to also come into her own person in the midst of everything, even if it isn’t always a breeze. Audra is very much a product of her situation, with some stormy parts of her past that she hasn’t exactly faced, yet it also isn't drowning her in the way often seen.

This is definitely one of those read in one sitting kind of books—the plot sucked me in at the start. There are so many elements and layers, as intricate as it is straightforward and fun. From the back story so easily blended into the bigger picture to the seamless worldbuilding, Messenger’s talent shines throughout. This is one of those books that sneaks up on you with everything actually going on, yet doesn’t overload readers at any given time. Creative in so many ways and completely easy to fall into, this book swept me off my feet. The writing is fabulous, with two very distinct voices and styles which not only lend vibrancy to Vane and Audra but makes for vivid action scenes and settings alike. Holding the perfect blend of humor and emotion, Let the Sky Fall is a breath of fresh air and is now on my favorites shelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blown Away. April 19, 2013
By Inky
Format:Hardcover
Oh my goodness. This was an amazing book. I've been anticipating this windy day romance for-like-EVER, and boy did it live up to my expectations. It was beautiful, engaging, and romantic with a side of swoon. Everything I ask for in a book.

The story is told from the perspective of our dual narrators Vane and Audra. Audra is a sylph, an air elemental who also happens to be Vane's guardian. She's got a pretty broken past, and her character is pretty rough to begin with. And let me just say, I absolutely loved her. Her flaws, her problems, her sarcasm, her strengths. It was so awesome watching her breeze by as she changed and hit walls and began her path to redemption. What's especially cool, at least to me, is the other fact that she's Vanes guardian. FOR ONCE, it's a girl. Okay, so maybe it's more common then that, but seriously. Audra is a force of nature! Pun intended. Hands down, I loved her.

Vane, our second narrator, is also kind of AWESOME. He starts out on a very different level, and page than Audra, but he's still so amazing! He has to take in a lot of information, and his emotions went back and forth quite a bit. Yet, it worked. Both of the characters share quite the emotional roller coaster and it made them stronger and just endearing in a way. I could totally FEEL them. But back to Vane. He was also, a teensy by hot. Okay a LOT. I loved him. His thoughts cracked me up quite a bit. And with Audra they are the BOMB!!! Or should I say, a TORNADO? Seriously! The romance picks up and there's already been a sort of connection between them and it just grows into something, ahem, swoon worthy. I loved it all.

The story itself is one that isn't very action packed from the start. It's a quiet build that crescendos into an epic finale. So if you're looking for an action packed story, this isn't the one you need. However there is lots of internal conflict and as said, that build of conflict is enough to keep you on your toes. I will tell you that I wasn't officially grabbed until maybe 40% in. I really liked it but when that crescendo hit, I was never gonna be going back again. By the end I was so hooked into the story I couldn't stop. Not to mention It was late at night and I didn't even start to get tired, like I normally do. My whole brain was engaged. And the END. Wow. My heart, shall I say, felt attacked by a whirlwind? More revelations, swoonyness, action and just awesome. I love it. Shannon had a great style of writing, that is unique, while not being overly strange or hard to read. It's quite easy to slip into the shoes of Vaudra. [yes I just gave them a mash name].

So...have we learned anything from this review? I am GONE WITH THE WIND over this book. I don't even know if that pun works but whatever. This book picked me up, I start on a small breezey draft and then I flew into the tornado. It was awesome. Needless to say I am pining for book two. I can't wait 11 months FOR MORE VAUDRA. The ending, while not a cliffhanger was still wrenching in a way. *flails* Okay, I'll shut up now. Bottom Line: GO. READ. THIS. BOOK. Now.

Content: Mild
[a few instances of light language and innuendo. A few kisses.]

5.0 out of 5 stars Once Upon a Twilight.com Reviews March 8, 2013
Format:Hardcover
Let the Sky Fall was AMAZING!!! That sentence should be enough for you to go out and buy this book. I devoured this book in no time. First off look at the cover, Beautiful! Once you read the book, it goes hand in hand with the story. I can sit here in front of my computer all day and fan-girl all you want about this Epic story. You know me and how I get when I read a book that is an orginal concept that has never been written before or at least that I haven't heard or read before. Its the same way I felt when I read Breathe by Sarah Crossan and Sophie Jordan's Firelight series. They are all orginal concepts that are new and AMAZING and well-written. This is why I read, so that when a new concept is written I am able to discover its magic.

Let the Sky Fall immediately captures you from the 1st chapter. You are taken into a story that has such an original concept and that concept is Windwalkers. Yes you read the right, its pretty much self-explanatory too. The mythology of the Windwalker is so alluring and poetic but has its dark-side too. I think I now would answer if someone were to ask me, 'what would I choose if I could have superpowers'? I would respond by saying I would be a Windwalker. Who doesn't want to be able to walk on air, listen to its beautiful music and even use the air to your benefit for protection and more, much more. After reading Let the Sky Fall, you'll catch yourself listening to the wind when your outside to see if you can hear anything coming from it. Shannon's writing was so believable and honest, you can actually picture or imagine what the Windwalkers hear. Did I mention already, that this book is EPIC!!! Didn't want to leave that piece of information out.

In Let the Sky Fall you are introduced to Vane and eventually to Audra. Vane for as long as he can remember has been dreaming of a girl that ends up being Audra in real life. He has had this recurring dream since the day he lost his parents during a category 5 tornado that he survived when he was really young. When Vane discovers Audra is real, events take place that now place them in serious danger. Audra basically has to give him a crash course on who Vane really is and what Windwalkers are, she has to 'WAKE' him up. Needless to say, Vane is not a happy camper even if it is Audra telling him. Now Audra and Vane must work together to figure out how to survive the doom that is headed their way. No one will help Audra, so she is left on her own to figure it out and train Vane at the same time. Vane must learn to call the West Wind which is something that only he can do. It has to come naturally to him in order to survive and be able to protect himself and Audra. Audra is starting to loose hope on Vane figuring out how to call the West Wind, so she is ready to make the ultimate sacrifice to protect Vane at all cost. Her life! If that is not enough to take in, it seems that Vane and Audra might be falling for one another and guess what? It' forbidden.

Let the Sky Fall will have you gripping the pages so hard from its charged-filled pages. You literally will get the wind knock out of you and you might even feel like you have been sucked in to your own personal category 5 tornado. Let the Sky Fall has it all and more. Its will grip you with its original story, believable characters, poetic mythology and passion that even Romeo and Juliette might be jealous about. I truly hope everyone reading this review will listen to me and buy this novel.

LET THE SKY FALL = DYNAMIC!!!!! - Yara
