Disappointing.,
This review is from: Let Sleeping Corpses Lie (Audio CD)
Preface: I am a HUGE White Zombie fan, and have been looking forward to this box set for years. As far as the quality of the music contained herein, this set gets a 5 out of 5.
1. Omissions. The set contains no remixes, which is neither surprising nor disappointing, since White Zombie's remixes were done by outside personel and, quite honestly, were never as good as the original recordings. Strangely, though, "Black Friday" and "Dead or Alive" are omitted from this set (maybe because they were only on the cassette version of "Gods on Voodoo Moon"?). Songs like "Star Slammer" which were previously recorded but never before released are also AWOL on the box set. What a shame. 2. Redundancy. La Sexorcisto and Astro Creep are contained, in their entirety, on Discs 3 and 4 (respectively). Anyone who's a big enough White Zombie fan to shell out this kind of money for the box set already has the two albums, both of which are owned by millions of fans across the world. Rob knows this, but included them anyway. Why? So he could justify a higher price tag? I feel like a moron for paying for something I already own. 3. Aesthetics. The packaging is very, very disappointing. Back in the day, Geffen declined to front the money to give Astro Creep the kind of elaborate booklet that Rob wanted. So, what did he do? He spent a big chunk of change out of his own pocket to give the album the kind of treatment it deserved. Sadly, Rob seems to have gotten miserly in his old age. The set's packaging is in the form of a compressed fold-out digipack. The booklet (which is in the form of a standard CD booklet, not an actual book, as I had hoped) is uninteresting and offers neither liner notes nor lyrics. This really caught me by surprised, as this is what usually makes box sets distinct from the rest of a band's catalogue. Rob really didn't come through on this. In summary: 1. It's incomplete. 2. It has stuff you already have. 3. It doesn't look as nice as it could have. BUT! 4. The music is great, and the quality of all the old pre-Sexorcisto tracks has been cleaned up a little bit. Oh, and the DVD is good too, although the videos for Boogieman and One curiously omit clips from the films in which they were featured (licensing issues, perhaps?). All in all, the good outweighs the bad. Buy it.

Amazing considering it's restrictions,

This box set is the grand finale for everything White Zombie. Overall I'm very pleased. Granted there isn't much along the road of extras, but White Zombie is a band that makes music and that's what you get... the music. Considering the restraints Rob Zombie had while making this, no communication with the rest of the band and little time, I thought it was an exceptional effort. For those who are complaining about the included material this article, http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/interviews/interviews/rob_zombie_i_find_it_distracting_to_hear_my_own_music.html , should explain much. All in all, a great effort from Rob Zombie and an amazing buy for White Zombie fans.

You're probably thinking whether the White Zombie boxset is really worth getting or not. Well I'll tell you right now that it's definitely worth it, you get 4 discs of music including a couple of rare songs like the Sabbath cover Children of the Grave and Ratfinks, Suicide Tanks & Cannibal Girls which are both sound fantastic. And you also get a completely awesome DVD containing all their music videos (the one on the past, present and future CD had a few missing videos for some reason) and some great live footage which includes the show at Donnington 95. For many fans this box-set was long overdue. White Zombie were for me one of the greatest bands the early 90's metal scene and their break up shortly after releasing Astro-Creep 2000 and the remix CD made me wonder if anyone could fill that void. It was a real shame when that happened cause I really wanted to see where they were going to head off to next but unfortunately it didn't happen. There is no doubt that Astro-Creep 2000 was an undisputed classic 90's industrial metal album with songs like Electric Head pt.1, More Human Than Human, Supercharger Heaven and Phantasmo and the Chicken-Run Blast-O-Rama.
This set comprises all Studio recordings, including the Soul Crusher & Make Them All Die Slowly albums that have been very difficult to track down for those of us without unlimited funds, so its great to have them all complied here together. I'll be honest some of the earlier stuff before they became a mainstream industrial metal group was kind of bad and slightly dodgy, Make Them Die was pretty good though despite the low production (Disaster Blaster being the highlight). I usually like to read about the band and most other box sets I own all have a biography or the bands history, some of these are fantastic and talk about studio sessions for each album, such as the Sabbath Black Box and you get a real insight into what made the band tick and learn more about these talented and amazing bands. Although Let Sleeping Corpses Lie does have a booklet, its just full of sepia tone photos and little else other than a track listing, which I was a little disappointed with. Still all things considered though, this is still a fantastic set and well worth the money, check it out if you're a die hard White/Rob Zombie fan.

Couldn't even believe it was out already. I'm a die hard white zombie/rob zombie fan and have been awaiting this release for some time. It was an unexpected surprise when I spotted this for sale earlier today. I've been checking Rob's website monthly to see a release date.
Anyways basically it's worth it more as a collectors item, but had a little buyers remorse after. I've owned the earlier white zombie records and trust me they're not something you're going to listen to for pleasure. Some songs sound like a garage band playing for the first time. The rest of the cd is some soundtrack songs mixed with the rest of the white zombie collection. DVD is pretty solid. I guess I personally had higher expectations.

The project that would not go away,

I think this has to be taken into context in that Rob has been avoiding this project for a long time. The reason you didn't get a major booklet or liner notes is because it seems like he just needed to get this thing done so it wasn't constantly hanging out there. That's obvious from some of his latest interviews. Re-recording and getting all the tracks transferred must have been pure hell given how many other projects he had lined up and its sort of like asking the yearbook editor of your high school yearbook to go back and redo your Senior year fifteen years after the fact. It was great, it deserves to be remembered but spending a year on it especially after all the hard feelings when the band ended, I wouldn't wish that on anyone. I'd just enjoy the DVD and chill out.

Please Rob, don't be so stingy and release the early albums separately!!!,

If you became a fan of White Zombie during the 90s with material like 'Astro Creep' and 'La Sexorcisto', fine, that's your prerogative. I find that music incredibly dull, just three heavy chords with some industrial dance backing and a ton of samples. The reason for this box set to exist AT ALL is to give fans a chance to hear those heavenly pre-Sexorcisto releases. Once upon a time, White Zombie was a KILLER noise rock band whose style was a mix of Birthday Party, Flipper and Scratch Acid. They would have fit wonderfully among the stable of artists on Amphetamine Reptile records. Rob Zombie (back when he was Rob Straker) sang in this weird, nasally high pitch, scratchy voice before he turned into this macho, biker metal guy. And that mixed with the weird movie lyrics really worked! But this box set is such a rip off! No one wins with this box set except for the greedy record company. If you're a fan of their later stuff, then you have to purchase albums you already own again and if you don't want to hear those albums because you only want to hear their early stuff, you have to buy albums you're never going to listen to! Seriously! Why did they repackage their WHOLE catalog? Who thought of this? Clearly Rob Zombie has some clout over at Geffen given his solo career success and his recent celebrity status in Hollywood!

Great boxset,
This review is from: Let Sleeping Corpses Lie (Audio CD)
First of all: at the price of two albums (I paid it 37 euros, new)you get all White Zombie discography (minus the remixes, not done by them, and two forgettable cassette-only tracks), all their videos, even an alternative version of Thunderkiss '65 as an easter egg, and a full movie, "White Zombie" with Bela lugosi, as an Easter egg it too.
Yeah, you don't have all the lyrics and all the artworks (I think it would have been virtually impossible for Rob to this all on his own), but you can easily find them on internet; instead you have a booklet full of photos of the band and some art by Rob Zombie, and all the track lists and the sources of the tracks. I quite like the minimal colour of the boxset, like something old, and I can live without every colour of every WZ's artwork, what really matters to me is the music. Here for the first time you have on CD all the pre-Geffen material, even the first Acid-Noise-Metal tracks: I quite dig that sound, very different from what they would have become later, and very 70's inspired, it shows how they changed with every work. Many times White Zombie are remembered as a Industrial Metal band, but it's far from the truth: only the last album "Atrocreep:2000" as some real electro-rock elements (but even there it's more an alternative metal thing, than a "Ministry-like" situation). What White Zombie has always been is a Horror themed hard rock band that used many different styles and influences, but always with this mindset and a z-horror movie feeling, the real core elements are Rob lyrics and themes, the change in sound was due to the changes that every time occurred to the line-up (only R. Zombie and Sean Yseult have always been in the band). I can understand that if you already own the two Geffen albums, you could have your doubts: personally I hadn't them so it was a great affair, because I liked every tracks, maybe if you already own them it's better to listen on the net to samples of their early old material and decide by yourself if you like it and it's worth your money, just don't overpay it anyway.

I ordered this box set off of here and just gotta say WOW. First let me just say that it only took 3 days for me to get this after I ordered it, plus I only paid 38 bucks for it used and it was in MEANT condition. I guess you could say that Im a late bloomer when it comes to Rob zombie. I got into him when his first solo album came out when I was in high school and became an immediate fan. I knew about White Zombies hits but never really listened to anything else but their hits. I am SO glad that I ordered this box set. You get the whole history of these guys. Some of the people on here giving bad reviews are from what I can tell HARDCORE White Zombie fans that were hoping for some extras in this set, so I can kinda understand why they would be a little mad, but if you are someone that has no White Zombie CD's and you wanna start somewhere, I would recommend this box set. I really do dig their earlier stuff. It's so raw and has emotion behind it. Also, some people complained about the packaging. I think it looks great. The only complaint I have about this box set is that it didnt come with a booklet about the band with stories in it like most box sets do. It has a booklet with nothing but pictures of the band from starting out all the way until the end when they made it, which is still cool. Other than that I have no complaints. Go buy this box set NOW. You wont be disappointed. GREAT MUSIC!!!!

4 disc, 1 dvd. Not bad, if your a zombie fan you have seen all these videos. I was kinda of let down by that. The four cds are just old school white zombie (very cool). If your a collector of WZ its a must. Just don't get your hopes to high, the videos and packaging could have been better. Overall I'm happy with it.

I own all the White Zombie CDs individually, but had to buy this box set. The extra songs are great and Zombie's skill at piecing together a audible puzzle for each of his albums does not fail. From the early thrashing, basement rock from the Soul Crusher and Make Them Die Slowly era to the chest thumping bass and head banging rock of La Sexorcisto, the box set is put together well and flows nicely. The fifth disc is worth the entire price of the boxed set containing previously unreleased videos and concert footage. White Zombie fans know that is not an easy thing to come by. To top it off the artwork in the book is Rob Zombie's own comically ghoulish drawings. Must own box set for true rock fans.
