Great book. I would have liked to have known that these are not "new" stories, but part of his larger volumes. I enjoy the small size and I don't mind rereading his stories.

Caution: This book could cause death by laughter...,

Another classic by Herriot, a must for fans. Although dated, Herriots humour is timeless. His vivid imagery pulls the reader into the Yorkshire of the early 70's. His descriptive powers give this book vibrancy. Essentially a diary of a vets life. His triumphs (Mrs. Bonds cats) and tribulations (the horse-show and Tristian). Somehow the tribulations are more enjoyable.....

I agree with the first reviewer, it is confusing to have these books released which have totally different names from the "original" set of Herriot books. They are portions of the classic series, with different names. However the one reason I am buying them is for my elderly mother, since they do come in large print which the regular Herriot books do not. And, in reference to the second reviwer: the time period the books are set in is 1930's Yorkshire, up to and slightly after WWII. They were written and released in the late '60's and early '70's and were immediate popular hits, justifiably so. I do wish Amazon would number them in order, since the publisher did not! However, going by the combo sets of these books, I think the order is: 1. If Only They Could Talk 2. It Shouldn't Happen to a Vet 3. Let Sleeping Vets Lie 4. Vet in Harness 5. Vets Might Fly 6. Vet in Spin 7. The Lord God Made Them All

BEWARE, I purchased this series thinking they were a continuation of James Heriot's first four but to my disapointment the publisher riped off the public by reprinted the original stories under a new title. I tryed to return them but gave up and donated them to the local library

Love love love this whole series! I cant say enough about it. i have enjoyed reading and re-reading this series for several years and there is just nothing like it. Great stories of a Vets life in the olden days of england. Colorful descriptions and comedic and gripping writting. I would suggest this book for anyone looking for a chuckle or aspiring veterinarians... like me!!
