This is good stuff!,
By Paul West "Pablo" (San Marcos, Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Let Us Pray (Paperback)
Watchman Nee spent much of his life in prison for preaching Jesus Christ in China. This was back around the early 1900's, when gospel resistance was exceedingly fierce for missionaries in Asia. His books and teachings were written mostly behind bars, under the oppression of his communist jailers. God was with him in prison, though, and rewarded his faithfulness by allowing him to lead several prison guards to Christ before he died.
All Nee's books were originally written in Chinese, and they have a certain insight into Christ that I have found unique. This man knew God, there is no doubt. He was intimate with the Holy Spirit, and God gave him revelation in prayer. To Nee, prayer is simply aligning your will with God's will. Of course, prayer is anything but simple. Prayer is often painful and taxing. What Nee does is lay down the basic rudiments for effective prayer: 1) Praying in God's will, birthed from the desire to know the heart of God on any given subject, and 2) Perseverence in prayer, or more specifically, praying until the burden is lifted. The second half of the book offers a teaching on Satan's tactics to disrupt the prayer life of a saint, and how to pray effectively in a group meeting. Really good stuff, I think. Books like these are good to have, keeping parts highlighted for quick access when your spirit starts to ebb. Prayer is the most important part of the Christian's walk, the part Satan attacks the most, and it is wise to read as much as we can by men who have excelled in it.

Efficacious Techniques for Christian Prayer,
By
This review is from: Let Us Pray (Paperback)
I give this book a very high rating due to the fact that Watchmen Nee provides us with so much useful information to help us in our daily walk with Christ. 'Let Us Pray' makes the basics of prayer available to us so that we may come to God with effective and fervent prayer. Watchman Nee expresses the importance of knowing what we Christians have to deal with daily so we may conquer the opposition and allow Gods will to prevail on earth. This book is essential for anyone who calls himself a follower of Christ ; it is also rewarding to anyone who wishes to sharpen their effectiveness in the dimension of prayer.

A wonderful book on prayer,
By
This review is from: Let Us Pray (Paperback)
Next to the Bible itself, this is probably the best book I have ever read on prayer. (That is not to say that there may not be better books out there, but I have yet to come across them.) The insight in this book really sheds some wonderful light on various Biblical passages on the subject. This text will enhance your understanding of Scripture and the manner in which God works. And most importantly, it will prompt you to seek a deeper relationship with the Lord, and it offers some wonderful insight in how to do so. I bought copies of this book for my entire family at Christmastime. This book is sure to be a blessing for all who read it.

Power in a small package,
By
This review is from: Let Us Pray (Paperback)
I've had this book for several years and have loaned it to several friends. One friend said at first she thought it was just another book about prayer, but was really impressed by the depth of it. This book covers why we pray, and how we should pray. It is also about entering into God's plans through prayer and how God waits for us to join with him through prayer to see his plans come about.

Gave me faith to allow God to let his will be done.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Let Us Pray (Paperback)
Let us pray did more than go beyond explanation of the Lord's prayer. It gave understanding that one needs above all to pray for the will of God to be done and to pray according to that perfect will. If our prayers are not answered in the way we think they should, it may be because we ask amiss. Watchman Nee sheds new light on our inner soul, as we reach out to God in prayer. We no longer cry out, "gimme, gimme". We set aside our wants and ask him by his Spirit to pray through us. We need not only to ask that God's will be done, but believe that as God's will is done, that we have overcome the enemy. The enemy gains nothing when the perfect will of God is accomplished. When our prayers line up with God's perfect will, we are being instrumental in ushering in the Kingdom of God. We set Jesus on his rightful throne, King of kings and Lord of lords. Let our prayer be, "Even so, Lord Jesus, come."

Clear and Simple,
By
This review is from: Let Us Pray (Paperback)
This book was great! I have been a Christian for a long time, and I have to admit, I've always been a bit confused on the subject of prayer. Nee did a great job of clearing this up for me. First, he releives my fears that it is ok if I'm confused on prayer, because we all should be; as prayer is something that is supernatural. However, that does not mean that we cannot learn about prayer! Nee, in a clear way, lays out why we pray and the purpose of it. I have gone to church my whole life, and I have never had prayer so simply explained. After I read this book, during my Bible reading, things just started to come together. When Jesus talks about prayer, it actually makes sense now on a much deeper level. This book is short and fast to get through, and I think that there are still a great many things that could be said about prayer that Nee does not touch on here; but for what he does say, it is second to none in my opinion!

Watchman Nee succinctly explains the privilege and science of true prayer. He doesn't present his own ideas...his presentation is that of what the Word of God reveals in this matter. This is a powerful little book that give you the tools needed to approach God in prayer with confidence.

Since I started graduate school, I've profited greatly from the ministry of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee, and this little volume is o exception. I bought it for my sister's boyfriend and read it before I gave it to him; now I want to get one for everybody I know.
