Goodreads Summary

It's hard to give a summary of this book, so I think I won't for now. The best summary is directly above my review! I wasn't entirely surprised that I found this book a great read. The author managed to infuse true emotion into the book, the reader will definitely be rooting for the main characters. The author clearly did extensive research while writing this book too, history buffs will not be disappointed.

The plot was terrific, but that's not a surprise given the action-packed summary. The events were very fast-paced, yet still managed to stick with the reader throughout the book-no reader should have to reread a paragraph or get confused. The main characters are very likable and even admirable. The secondary characters were just as interesting to meet...some charming...some not so much, but they blended well in the book. This book also manages to give the reader some history without becoming dry. This book is recommended to young adults/adults.

An intriguing and suspenceful novel which succeeds in holding the reader's interest till the final page! The author has taken great pains to research the historical significance and accuracy of the book which reveals a WW II drama set in a not well known location. A must read for those captivated and grateful for the, "Greatest Generation", who sacrificed that we may exist in a free world today!

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't put it down, September 23, 2011
This review is from: Let the White Doves Soar: Volume I: "Tyranny" (Paperback)
I was astounded to learn that this author not only wasn't a WWII veteran, but had no military experience at all. The details were so convincing and the scenes so vivid, I was sure Robert Dahl was writing from personal wartime experience. He does, however, have aviation and sailing experience, which he put to very convincing use throughout the story. The vast amount of research he must have conducted in putting together this book, definitely shines through. And, I especially appreciated the intriguing way he revealed the counterpoint motivations and inner thoughts of both his protagonists and antagonists. The plot is fascinating and fast-paced. I will be looking forward to more from Robert Dahl.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting & Very Entertaining!, September 4, 2011
This review is from: Let the White Doves Soar: Volume I: "Tyranny" (Paperback)
Reading this book makes you feel like you are there in the action. This WWII story is very touching and exciting reading material. I'll recommend the book to readers of all ages, since aside from its entertaining value, it takes you back into a time of WWII that we know very little of. The life of the pilots and their journey through different war zones is a very gripping and historically correct.

I'll give this book two thumbs up!

Fantastic WWII novel taking mostly place in Greece, made me shed a tear in several spots, including the end, very well written, believe it could be picked up for a tv or movie series in future. I read a little over one third of the book flying from Tampa International Airport to Hobby Airport in Houston, read the second third plus on my flight back from Hobby to Tampa, and when I got home decided to cancel my plans and finish reading the book as was so good.

Below is a review from my Grandmother, who purchased this book:
"I have just read 'Let the White Doves Soar' by Robert S. Dahl.
I really enjoyed it and I think he did an excellent job writing it.
It flows very well & keeps you wondering what is going to happen next.
I hope a lot of young people read it as it is a good history lesson for them.
The schools don't always teach history as it really was and expecially when it comes to how terrible & brutal the Nazis were.
It brings back a lot of memories for the older people, also."
