If you like a book heavy on suspense and police work and lite on romance then this book is for you. I prefer mine the other way around. The book was enjoyable and Luke and Amy were well matched characters. Both had great tragedies in their lives because of which Amy has built very high walls around herself and has become very single minded and driven. Luke has chosen to live life. They are thrown together to find a serial killer who's killing baseball players wives.

Amy Robitaille is a hard wording, no-nosense homicide detective determined to catch those who terrorize others. After losing her sister at a young age, Robitaille has committed her life to solving crime leaving little time for anything else include a social life or a family of her own.

Luke Beckett is a former baseball star and ex-Marine. After all star performances on the field and serving over seas, he's enjoying early retirement by visiting children at a local Children's Hospital and taking up golf in his spare time.

When a naked and mutilated corpse is found in Palm Beach Country, the city goes on high alert for a killer living among them. When the cops determine the murderer may be targeting baseball players wives, they must pool all their forces to stop the killer before he claims his next victim.

In the most important case of her career, the last thing Robitaille needs is a famous pampered baseball star muddling the investigation, but Beckett has no intention of stepping to the side in this one. Robitaille and Beckett will need to combine their resources if they want any hope of stopping this killer. However, first impressions might not be quite as they seem, and the building sparks that fly between them may prove too great to ignore.

Will they catch this killer before he strikes again? As the evidence mounts, and the killer strikes closer to home, learning to trust each other may be a matter of life and death.

A gripping novel, V. K. Sykes hits this one out of the park! An engaging mystery from start to finish with a pulse-racing blend of suspense, murder, romance, and action. This is a must read!!

I wasn't sure I was going to like it murder mystery and a love story all rolled up in one. But oh I couldn't put it down until I was finished. The plot just held you and wouldn't let you go.

This was a great read from beginning to end. The characters were all very well developed. I normally don't read nail biter romance novels, however this was an exception. it had an incredible and believable plot.

Having worked in law enforcement I could totally relate to this story. I will be reading more books by V.K. Sykes.

The one thing I might mention is that the proofreading was not so great. There were some big flub ups that should have been corrected.

Two broken hearts trying to heal. What's a girl to do? She had no defense against a man with a plan. Great book!!! Loved the detailed search for the killer.

Two haunted souls manage to find each other in the midst of the hunt for a serial killer. Both left damaged due to unimaginable family murders, Amy and Luke struggle on their life's path. But instant sexual heat leads them to each other, giving them a chance at the future and the strength to move on, all while trying to the solve the murders of the wives of several minor league baseball players. Along with these great characters, the hunt is on to find the killer. A great murder drama with some heat thrown in, my first adventure with V.K. Sykes was well worth the read.

I am a little torn by this book. I have enjoyed some V. K. Sykes books more than others. I had high hopes for this one.

I will start by saying that looking at the cover and reading the synopsis that this book was a Romance/Suspense, heavier on the Romance side of things. This definitely was not the case. I did not even find there was any chemistry between Amelie and Luke. In fact, I thought their initial sexual encounter quite laughable. No romance there with the bolting up the stairs and back down to grab a condom.

Both of the leading characters had much grief to deal with from their past lives, much like most romance novels. I'm not sure Amelie's was ever dealt with much at all.

I liked the actual plot, though I found it quite unbelievable that somebody would become that obsessed with Minor League ball players.

My major complaint about this book was the amount of grammatical errors, (hopefully just on the Kindle version), and the French swearing. I found both way too distracting. I have relatives and friends from Montreal and none of them do this when speaking English.
