Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Myra Rutledge and the fun-loving members of her vigilante group, which operates out of Myra's estate near Washington, D.C., deliver more creative punishment to miscreants who escape the traditional legal system in the sixth entry in bestseller Michael's lighthearted Sisterhood series (Sweet Revenge, etc.). When stock broker Alexis Thorn spends a year in prison for defrauding elderly investors, a crime actually committed by her greedy bosses, the Sisterhood plots revenge with the assistance of Myra's childhood pal, heiress Anna Ryland de Silva, and DA Jack Emery, Myra's lawyer daughter Nikki's boyfriend. Reporters Maggie Spritzer and Ted Robinson don't make their job any easier after the pair break into Nikki's office and uncover evidence that could embarrass the Sisterhood. Readers looking for an updated Charlie's Angels in "wild women" mode will be most satisfied. (Oct.)

From Booklist

In the sixth installment of Michaels' Revenge of the Sisterhood series, our group of vigilante ladies is finally giving Alexis her turn at justice. Each of the women have been let down by the criminal justice system, so they seek to balance the scales for each other. Alexis worked at a brokerage firm whose partners framed her for the theft of money from her accounts. Found guilty, she was sent to prison for a year. Now it's time for a little payback. The sisterhood's scheme is relatively simple, but there's an extra fillip at the end that puts its vengeance over the top. Add to that a pair of reporters who have almost figured out who they are, and the ladies are in real danger of being exposed. Fans of the series will relish the latest episode because it's as full of daring and rough justice as all the rest. Maria Hatton

If you are following Ms. Michaels Sisterhoold series I think you will truly enjoy this one.

As always the memebers of the sisterhood are at risks but this time they are so afraid of getting caught that Myra convices Charles to visit an old friend of hers and see if they might be able to use her residence as a safe haven.

Alexis was a successful broker who was framed and imprisoned for being set up by Arden Gillespie and Roland Sullivan. Thanks to Ms. Gillespies cunning ways she gets Roland to go along with her although he is not comfortable with the plan but is intrigued and infatuated witih Arden.

The results are fantastic and they are dosed with touches of humor which only Ms. Michaels can provide. Since I dont want to give it away lets just say Ms. Gillespie will never look the same again once the sisterhood are done with her.

I highly recommend it.

If you are reading the Sisterhood series and have made it to this book, let's face it, you are a fan. This book will not disappoint. The series is entertaining and touches that part of our psyche that likes to see the good guys (or women in this case) triumph. The women of the Sisterhood have been wronged by the justice system. They are not entirely wrapped up in their own problems though, their experiences have made them even more sensitive to the plight of others. With Myra's billions and Charles's expertise and resources, there is seemingly nothing these women can't accomplish. Relax and enjoy the world of the Sisterhood.

Loved this book. If anyone has had a family member or loved one almost destroyed by our "legal 'justice'" system you will like this. I know that there are others like my family who have been hurt and I like hearing what fictitious characters would do, while I never could or would do those things. Makes me feel so not alone.

Alexis Thorn, the first-time around, passed her revenge by The Sisterhood. She was haunted by the specter of bars controlling her life.

"Lethal Justice" by Fern Michaels gives Alexis the justice she was denied in grand style as the Sisterhood unite and gain a new member in this the sixth of a good series.

Wanting and being afraid of the consequences of her desire, plagues Alexis, as she knows the score. She served time in prison for a crime she didn't commit and has no desire to return. Perhaps the most complex of the series to date.

Nash Black, author of "Qualifying Laps" and "Taxes, Stumbling Blocks & Pitfalls for Authors."

Not much different than the others in the series. Fern needs to hire another publisher as there were 5 spelling errors in this book (pages 79,85,90,112,and 151). Discouraging to find a published work with so many errors.

I thought this might be the last in the series. The mention of another name at the end leads me to think another book will be forthcoming. If you enjoy women who take care of business when done wrong, you will like this book. Suggestion: start at the beginning and read in order of publication. Weekend Warriors, I think is the first in the series. I like the series.

This series is different from other mystery books. The characters are all believable and easily identifible. The idea of revenge and yet staying somewhat inside the law is a great concept. The plots are somewhat elaborate but still the reader can get into them. I thoroughly enjoyed this. Fern Michaels has a winner.

Unabridged Audio CD (7 CD's, 8 Hours)

This is a review of the unabridged audio CD version of LETHAL JUSTICE (7 discs, approx 8 hours), narrated by Laural Merlington. Produced by brilliance audio, whose products I prefer for their quality and especially the short tracks (usually approx 100 per CD), which make it easy to relisten if I am interrupted during the narration, either by conversation or a driving distraction.

This is the first Fern Michaels book to which I have listened (or read), and the first reading by this narrator as well. My wife and I listened over a few days while to our vacation destination. I was looking for a fairly easy listen, one engaging enough to keep our interest but which would not require intense concentration and the length was about right. The description of this story seemed to meet those criteria, and I know that THE SISTERHOOD series is immensely popular.

First, while I am not as critical of the narrator as a few other reviewers, I thought that she was very average compared to some of the other outstanding Brilliance audio narrators. Her narration neither detracted from or added to my enjoyment of the story. In comparison, Susan Erickson's narration of JD Robb's ...IN DEATH series actually adds to my enjoyment of the series. (Highly recommended as an alternative to readers who desire a series with a female lead character.)

Second, this is the sixth book (now at 16) in the series but easily works as a standalone story. The author gradually introduces enough of the backstory (which is pretty minimal) and series characters so the reader has the appropriate context without having to wade through a lot of boring detail.
