"Warning: This relationship may be harmful to your health," declares psychotherapist Braiker ( The E Type Woman ) in this self-help book designed to prevent or cure stress-induced negative emotions--anxiety, guilt, depression and loss of self-esteem, in this case caused by others (insensitive husbands, bad bosses and problem relatives among them). Examining clinical examples, the author demonstrates that such feelings can result in physical ills ranging from cardiac or intestinal dysfunctions to cancer and the common cold. She also provides questionnaires to test the "toxicity" of relationships and lists techniques for use in "detoxification"; readers may find these simplistic. While conceding that all relationships cannot be saved, Braiker advises "calm verbalization of anger" and the use of mental imagery to eliminate negative thoughts.

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I HAVE EVER READ ON RELATIONSHIPS WITH ANY DEGREE OF PROBLEM. IT WAS THE ONE BOOK I READ THAT HELPED ME SEE THAT I HAD NO OPTION BUT TO LEAVE EVERTHING I HAD WORKED FOR AND JUST WALK AWAY. I LOST EVERYTHING I HAD WORKED FOR 20 YEARS FOR AND STARTED LIFE OVER AT 55, SICK, BROKE, AND ALMOST DESTROYED BUT ALIVE AND ABLE TO COME BACK. I CAN'T BELIVE THIS BOOK IS OUT OF PRINT. I HAVE ONE COPY WHICH I WILL NOT LET OUT OF MY HOME. ANOTHER COPY IS ON ORDER TO BE ABLE TO SHARE WITH OTHERS WHO NEED THIS BOOK. IT IS AS TRUE AS THE BIBLE AND EVEN RESTATES SOME OF THE BIBLE TRUTHS.
