The first time I watched this I thought it was extremely boring, but I have to admit that the more times I see it, the more it grows on me. It's the story of a marshall (C.C. Costigan) who's in a women's prison on some asteroid for some reason (she's innocent of whatever charges, of course). It turns out that there's a spaceship somewhere that was conducting experiments in inter-dimensional travel, and they've brought back a menacing alien. The powers that be decide to send our imprisoned marshall to investigate, in exchange for a reduction in her sentence. Yeah, okay, it doesn't make much sense that they'd send a prison inmate instead of a genuine commando, but who knows, maybe they're really short of regular commandos in the future. Besides, this way you get to see the women in the prison in their tattered little garments with lots of upskirt and through-the-armhole shots. So be happy.

Once aboard the spaceship, the menacing alien is pretty much forgotten about for a long time as our hero has sex with some guy on the ship, and the evil genius doctor in charge of the project (Kim Dawson) has sex with some other girls.

Towards the end, we finally do get to see the alien - and if you've seen the movie Xtro II you've pretty much seen all of this before since a whole lot of footage is borrowed from that movie. And a lot of the footage from this movie is borrowed to the movie Fatal Conflict. But, what the hey.

Overall this movie can be pretty slow moving at times, but it definitely succeeds in establishing a nice mood which is the reason I like these sorts of movies. There's fairly plentiful T&A, just in case I've left any doubt. So if you're a fan of this sort of stuff, give it a try.

2.0 out of 5 stars "Alien" as porn, February 6, 2011
This review is from: Lethal Target (DVD)
In the 23rd century, female convicts will be imprisoned in mining colonies. They will be forced to wear short, tattered dresses and thongs and, while they are prohibited from wearing bras or using combs, they will be allowed makeup and manicures.

One prisoner, former undercover operative Nikki Savage, cunningly barters eight years off her life sentence (??) in exchange for accepting a special mission -- pose as a sexually permissive security guard and check out the situation on a science vessel where matter transfer experiments have seemingly gone awry. Nikki (Tia Carrere-wannabe C.C. Costigan) quickly infiltrates the ship, where she finds head researcher Dr. Dane (Kim Dawson) having sex with the staff, secreting an alien virus under her fingernails and keeping secrets about the dead or missing crew.

There are a lot of movies providing variations on the Alien theme, and Lethal Target is one of the worst I've seen. Special effects are mostly nonexistent, props are strictly bargain-counter and the aliens are so closely related to those from the Alien series I'm amazed there wasn't litigation involved. The movie uses endlessly repetitive loops -- exterior shots of the ship, scrolling data or schematics on 20th-century laptops, the dragging tail or stalking foot of an alien or flashback sex -- to save film. The plot makes no sense, the dialogue is corny and the delivery worse, and the transformation of nerdy lapdog Pike (Josh Barker) into a gun-toting hero is laughably silly (he removes his glasses and pulls off his shirt to affect the change).

On the other hand, Costigan, Dawson and several nameless extras spend a lot of time naked or in lingerie. In fact, it would only take a small push to bounce Lethal Target into the soft-porn bin.

So there you have it. If you want Alien, rent or buy Alien. But if you thought Alien suffered too much plot and an overabundance of wardrobe, this movie's for you.

1.0 out of 5 stars IN SPACE NO ONE CAN SEE YOU ACT, April 20, 2005
This review is from: Lethal Target (DVD)
LETHAL TARGET is supposed to be a scifi monster movie. We see very little of the monster, and when we do, it's some of the cheesiest special effects you've seen. I don't know about you, but I'm getting tired of movies having to have so much sex without a real purpose, and also the lesbian activity is just too forced and unbelievable. There is so much filler in this movie that involves the head sexy villain licking and petting her concubine, and it slows down what little action there is to the point of being nothing more than a gimmick to get sex-starved viewers to think they're watching a good movie. Sorry for the soapbox.

Anyway, this movie offers us CC Costigan as an imprisoned Space Marshal who is offered a commute of her sentence if she single-handedly goes on board some kind of space station and finds out what's happened to the crew. The space station, which looks like something a kid composed of tinker toys, is commanded by voluptous Kim Dawson, whose acting abilities are nowhere to be found. She has a combination nerdy/hunky assistant, played with no enthusiasm by Josh Barker, who is ordered to seduce the marshal to find out what she knows. Seems like Dawson went on some kind of time travel mission, came back, bringing with her an alien creature. Dawson also has the alien virus, and can contaminate by scratching her victims. We have the token creature exploding out of the chest scene, and Costigan chases the monsters around a little bit, etc. etc.

LETHAL TARGET offers nothing new in a tired genre, so its reason for existence is beyond my scope of understanding. Avoid.
