Book Description

Music provides a unique and powerful means of promoting communication and social interaction in students with learning difficulties. This complete resource contains activities and guidance for effective musical group work, and a collection of songs specifically written or adapted in response to the needs of students with communication problems. "Let's All Listen" contains 46 songs with a vocal line and piano accompaniment for music specialists, as well as simplified guitar versions for non-specialists and an audio CD featuring all of the songs from the book. Pat Lloyd provides suggestions for how each song can be used and developed to encourage communication and social interaction, and lists a range of possible objectives for each one. Advocating a flexible approach, she demonstrates how musical activity can be adapted easily and successfully to the specific needs of individual students. Enjoyable and easy to use, this is an ideal resource for specialist and non-specialist music instructors working to improve the communication and social skills of students with learning difficulties, including those with additional autism.

3.0 out of 5 stars Music notation is not correct, July 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Let's All Listen: Songs for Group Work in Settings That Include Students with Learning Difficulties and Autism [With CD] (Paperback)
The songs in this book are great songs. However, many of the songs are notated incorrectly, using awkward ties and note values in order to notate the rhythm. Sometimes, there are extra beats in a measure, or not enough, and you have to try and determine what is actually supposed to be played/sung. It is a good book, and they have good ideas for songs and ways to use them. However, the notation really dropped my rating of this item.
