Editorial Reviews

The Lovemakers' latest full-length record, transparently entitled "Let's Be Friends," is set for a September release. The album was produced by Talking House Productions in San Francisco and was mixed by Times of Romance producer Clif Norrell. Keeping with tradition the songs range from the sweet melodic intensity of The Cure to the unapologetic ass-shaking of Prince. In other words, if Katy Perry's mall-sass joined forces with cult heroes Sparks' eclectic, fun, and witty style you'd get The Lovemakers. The album boasts big, 80s narrative-driven pop songs instructed by plenty of dirty, gritty fun.

This review is from: Lets Be Friends (Audio CD)
The followup to the excellent Times Of Romance album sees the change to a more guitar driven sound heard on the EP continued here. The big bass beats are still present but you will be bopping you head more than shaking your hips. But enough about the instrmentation, because the vocals are the highlight to The Lovemakers. The way that the two singers play off of each other and weave thier themes in and out of the song is just great.

Found 7 songs that I liked on this collection, with Love is Dead, Where Did You Go and Wanna Go Back as the favorites. The querky rockabilly Everyone Is Fighting was a interesting change of pace that still works.

Fans of high energy multi-part vocal songs should like this. But I would still get Times of Romance first.
