5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for practicing Fox Trots and Waltzes
This CD is divided by dance. The first 9 pieces are Fox Trots and the next 6 are Waltzes. This set up allows for continuous practice of each of the two dances. The music and songs are performed by well known artists and are delightful to listen to. A must for your ballroom dance CD collection, regardless of your dancing ability.

Because the Waltz and the Fox Trot are the most popular of the standard ballroom dances I think this CD hits it right on the nose by featuring just these two. I've competed in ballroom dancing and am now teaching a beginning level class. The beats are easy to follow and pick-up on. The tempos are just right. The songs make it easy to get lost in your own little dancing world. I prefer to dance these two dances with songs that have lyrics (not just insturmental) and this CD provides that feature. Charming, and practical this CD is an excellant choice for your ballroom dancing CD collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars I really like this CD! It's great for listening or dancing., September 12, 1999

I just started dancing Smooth/Standard and this collection of songs were familiar favorites of mine from "easy listening" radio stations. The music is well-done and presents a nice mix of speeds for novice or expert dancers. I particularly enjoy the waltes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great dance music, with some quirks, April 2, 2007
This review is from: Let's Dance! : The Best Of Ballroom Foxtrots & Waltzes (Audio CD)
I enjoy this disc, and it is great fun to dance to. Most of the tempos are appropriate, but there are some interesting quirks here that other reviewers have not mentioned. I list these after the title, duration, and suggested dance:

There will never be another you, 2:55, Foxtrot
I've heard that song before, 3:02, Foxtrot
In a mellow tone, 3:16, Foxtrot
I let a song go out of my heart, 2:02, Foxtrot
Teach me tonight, 3:01, Foxtrot (Oh! It begs to be danced as a West Coast Swing)
On a little street in Singapore, 3:20, Foxtrot
Mister Sandman, 2:40, Foxtrot (Hey, this is perhaps 48 bpm, so dance it as a Quickstep)
Sunny side of the street, 2:43, Foxtrot (Again, it works great as a West Coast Swing)
Crazy World Theme, 2:10, Waltz
Song from Moulin Rouge, 3:22, Waltz
Put your dreams away, 2:39, Waltz
Charade, 2:34, Waltz
Tenderly, 2:56, Waltz (A beautiful recording, but it is somewhat difficult to hear the beat)
In a perfect world, 4:18, Waltz (Very slow at the start, perhaps 28 bpm?)
Bicyclettes de Belsize, Les, 3:10, Waltz

5.0 out of 5 stars A great collection of 8 Fox Trots, 7 Waltzes, November 20, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Let's Dance! : The Best Of Ballroom Foxtrots & Waltzes (Audio CD)
A great collection to practice your steps and dance to. The CD is arranged with the first 8 songs as Fox Trots (most are slow, 30 bpm), including There Will Never be Another You (Andy Williams). The next 7 are Waltzes, including Charade (Andy Williams), and others from Englbert Humperdink and Henry Mancini.

Loved the format, it gave several dances in a row with the same dance. Great for practice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Romantic music to dance or listen to, December 2, 2004
This review is from: Let's Dance! : The Best Of Ballroom Foxtrots & Waltzes (Audio CD)
Big hit in our thanksgiving party. Lovely music, whether to dance or listen to. My favorite is Andy William's "There will never be another you." Will get another one for my sister-in-law.

If you are looking for a collection of standards that are by the origional artists, this is a great CD! I'm dissapointed how many collections are out there where the music is watered down versions that sound much like elevator music. This collection should definitely be apart of yours. It's great to finally be able to dance to the origionals that made the dancing popular to begin with. I should point out that this isn't a collection of greatest hits, but it shouldn't be overlooked.

4.0 out of 5 stars Foxtrot Fun, July 6, 2006
This review is from: Let's Dance! : The Best Of Ballroom Foxtrots & Waltzes (Audio CD)
My husband and I really enjoyed this CD. We're ballroom beginners and have trouble finding music to practice to. This CD has great songs (with singing - neither one of us cares for the "instrumental" versions of popular songs) and it allows us to practice dancing to a variety of tempi.

Song 7 (Sandman) IS NOT a foxtrot. It is a quickstep. The other foxtrot songs are about the correct tempo, but I did not like them much, all of them sound too mellow.

The character of the foxtrot is captured by a very gentleman/gentlewoman attitude so it can be more serious than say a quickstep or Viennese/Slow Waltz, but it does not have to be all sad...
