Early Latino Rocker and acomplished balladeer., August 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Let's Dance: The Monogram Sides (Audio CD)
Chris Montez, early latino rocker influenced by Ritchie Valens as evidenced by a couple of Valens sound alike tunes and his concert staples(not on the CD) La Bamba and Donna. This Cd also includes Ritchies' Turkish Town cover, same arrangement. Chris does some beautiful ballads on this CD including a duet with Monogram stablemate Kathy Young (1,000 stars). His soft ballad sound on this CD is later exploited by Herb Alpert when Chris moved over to A&M. This CD is early Chris Montez with Let's Dance (#4 POP) and Some Kinda Fun (#43 POP)and a couple of attempts at Surf Music (Chris attended Hawthorne High with the Beachboys)and the CD starts out with a great Chris Montez Introduction. There is a very similar Cd package Available with two additional Kathy Young Duets and all of his A&M recordings of which six were big cahrt hits. Both Cd's are a must for Chris Montez fans and Latin Rock Historians. Chris is still touring mostly with a Bobby Vee package and is the nicest guy in person.
.........Vince Guillen, a big fan.
