The 1958 RCA VICTOR "New Orthophonic" hi-fi album of LET'S DANCE WITH THE THREE SUNS (LPM/LSP-1578) is on their classic black "HMV" label. A warm and nicely full-range vacuum tube sound has impressive top and bottom notes.

This style of dinner music passed with the heyday of the WWII generation. It was an era of massive autos bedecked with glimmering chrome, that transported men in topcoats and hats and ladies in sequined or beaded evening gowns to formal affairs where the foxtrot and waltz reigned supreme. Yet, this album's liner note author, Bernie Green suggests it could also be listened to while sitting, walking or even doing morning chores.

One gets a mind flash from this of a June Cleaver-ish housewife dessed in pearls, shift and heels, pushing a broom watering plants or dusting while she listens absent-mindedly to the Three Suns; yet it's an illusion that was given to Americans by creators of its sitcoms and family shows. My mom (and millions like her) was much too sensible to waltz around the house in 3" heels with trash pail or waxing cloth in hand.

Here, the reconstituted Three Suns, featuring original organist Artie Dunn, are augmented by the twin pianos of Andy Ackers and Cy Mann. Founding member, guitarist Al Nevins, acts as conductor.

These ten medleys are highlights of songs written by men so famous, only their last names need mentioning: the Gershwins, Waller, Rodgers & Hart, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Kern & Hammerstein, Porter, Dubin & Lane and Lane & Harburg, among others.
