I'm not going to waste time mentioning all the ways this book is awesome. The things you need know about this book are that Nelson's writing style is engaging; it draws the reader in from page 1. The book flows from the 'Whys' to the 'Hows' of dinner parties effortlessly and entertainingly. And finally, Nelson's recipes and party ideas are simple, elegant, and easy-to-do.

This book is entertaining and a great way to demystify the dinner party.

How could I resist the opportunity to tell my fellow Amazon-ians how flattered and pleased I would be for you to check out my book? Researching and writing "Let's Dish Up A Dinner Party!" was a labor of love and I couldn't be more delighted with the wonderful feedback I've been receiving since it's release (October, 2004).

I hope you will find it as helpful and amusing as I do... and I invite you to pop me an email to let me know if that is the case!

Best wishes & dishes to you... May all your dinner parties be fun and festive!

This book is the BEST and I am truly honored to be a part of it. I laughed when Nelson asked me for my favorite recipe as I don't cook and have never entertained on my own. But after reading this book I learned so much on how to throw a truly great dinner party! As I said, I am not good in the kitchen and have always been afraid to have guests over for dinner. Nelson's book gave me the confidence to have my friends over for my first dinner party ever! And guess what? I got RAVE reviews from all my guests! Thanks to Nelson and his amazing tips and easy to follow instructions...I had a blast throwing the party and I'm getting ready for my next big event! You will have a good time reading this book and even more fun entertaining!!

What a fantastic, flavorful pseudo-throwback to Emily Post (with a healthy dose of contemporary gay humor and celebrity dish)! Aspen includes many terrific etiquette tips...long lost among most of my peers. And the recipes?! I'm still drooling!! The book should really come with a warning label: "CAUTION: Do not read if pregnant and confined to a space without access to food, like the Metro North train, for example. May cause painful grinning and even occasional outbursts of cackling. Side effects include excessive salivation, unconscious chewing, and almost psychedelic fantasizing about future social gatherings and reminiscences of parties past."

Listen- Brad, we all know you want and need just the right dinner party right now. Feeling rather awkward and not so sure of what party might be -ugh- "appropriate" or actually FUN! Perhaps you would like to start fresh, with a most coy little apperitif? The shy canape? Relax with a warm and mature red wine for comfort? Move on to an appetizing mousse and brave a devilish egg? Oh yes Brad- you know it feels right!

Suddenly Brad, your whole world feels- well somehow new, bright, and just right! You have entered the world of Nelson Aspen, and his Vanity Fair meets ( well pick your most unapologetic hedonist-emily post idol).

Let the stress melt, let your new friends fascinate you, hover and glide for the next 4 hours into a velvety cloaked assembly of friends, possibly freaks and fine food, music, candles,a bit of magic.

Buy this book or forever regret your existance!

I am not kidding, I do consult the book whenever I question which utensil goes where. I'm not sure how Nelson learned and retained this since we grew up in the same house (yes, he's my brother), and I didn't have a clue past the salad fork and soup spoon. The book was a lot of fun and easy to read. The recipes were fairly simple and very good. Since I have been a guest at Nelson's dinner parties, I can attest to his fabulous gift for entertaining. Read the book - you will enjoy it and have some great recipes for your next dinner party.

This book delivers exactly what it promises - practical tips for taking the stress out of planning to entertain with a dash of camp. I enjoyed reading the book almost as much as I enjoyed the dinner party that I hosted!
