One Amazing Album,

Curtis Mayfield wrote some of the best motion picture scores of the 70s - and it was largely the sound of these films that catapulted them to box office success. "Let's Do It Again" as a stand alone single has always been one of the most soulful and happy jams of the era - but rarely has the rest of the album that it came from been celebrated. The music on this album is sooo cool. I'll even date myself by saying that the album is so good that it's Baaad.

Superfly Meets the Staples,

This is a must-have cd for fans of Curtis or the Staples Singers. It is a slight detour from most SS albums, in that this one is all about love, lust, and funky good timing. Curtis really teases out beautiful performances here, highlights include the smooth title track and the sexy workout "Funky Love." I really love "New Orleans," and was hoping it would get remade or re-noticed in the wake of Katrina. The song where it all works, though, is "I Want to Thank You," where Curtis's groove, funk, backbeat, and production meet the overtly spiritual nature of the lyrics (more traditional SS territory). A great album.

Sweet, sweet grooves,

For years I could not find this album but the sweetness of the grooves meant that it just had to be re-released sometime. Mavis Staples swaps her spine-tingling spiritual invocations for something altogether more earthy and the result is dynamite. 'Let's get it on' may be the classic evening call to love but 'Let's do it again' is the track for the morning after. My only criticism is that the first tracks on the CD are the strongest and there's not quite enough on the whole CD to rate 5 star. Still - a classic and one for every lover of true soul music.

Doing it again and again,

This is an excellent album. The combination of the staple singers and curtis mayfield was brilliant. Love to see their album Pass it On released as a CD also. This album goes great with Claudine by Gladys Knight and the Pips and Sparkle by Aretha Franklin. All three of these albums are soundtracks written by Curtis Mayfield.

This soundtrack IMO was a breakthrough moment for The Staple Singers; they broke format into a much more sinful secular format than their earlier group albums and introduced generations of fans to their work. The late Pops Staples is so cool on his parts and laid back you tend to forget this is a old man singing with his daughters. Mavis' voice is just perfect; she has all the frustrations of a hormonal teenage girl mixed in with some determination to get what she wants. There is no bad track on here. They go so great and complement each other as they tell the outline of the film. So I won't keep you reviewers because you have to order this CD, wait the whole 3 days for it to come media mail, and press play, smile, grin, and chill.

A Beautiful Thing...,

I am a vinyl record and cd collector of music from the 70's and have been searching for this album for at least 10 years. I could not find it online or at any new or used record stores. I am sooooooo happy that this has finally been released. The title song alone is worth the purchase (it's a full length version, not the radio/45 edit that's featured on 70's compilations...I have that version too). But luckily, you are also treated to some wonderful, funky and inspiring gems "New Orleans", "I Want to Thank You", "Funky Love" and two beautiful instrumentals, "Big Mac" and "After Sex". Excellent liner notes are provided with the cd also. If you love 70's Soul Music and want to revisit a time when it was more important to have true feeling in music, not just create an image for mass appeal, then you definitely want this cd. I have searched high and lown and am so happy that "Ambassador Soul Classics/Rhino Entertainment" company has released one hell of a GEM! Like the Staples Singers sing "I WANT TO THANK YOU"."

Must have Staple Singers CD!,

This is a great CD to complement the 1975 classic movie! One sees the movie in his/her head when listening to these tracks. I can see these cool brothers driving the classic 1975 Cadillac Fleetwood back to the new church from money they ripped off from some New Orleans gangsters! The movie is excellent! Why the release took until this May questions me. This is a necessary purchase for Staple Singers fans!

Lyrics are not as socially relevant, the funk isn't as biting, but at its best the seduction is nearly as smooth, as Curtis continued sailing back to earth with this soundtrack after a trailblazing solo career introduction. There aren't enough great songs to justify a wholehearted recommendation, plus a few watered down crowd-pleasers and a direct rip (New Orleans= Grapevine), but LDIA still deserves attention and would belong in any Mayfield aficionados's collection
