5.0 out of 5 stars Sandra Scoppetone has topped herself with this one.
Save yourself some agony and order "Gonna Take a Homicidal Journey" in hardback while you're ordering this book. LET'S FACE THE MUSIC AND DANCE is Scoppettone topping herself. The best of characterization and the best of suspense all combined together with a hang-on-by-your-fingernails ending put together seamlessly. Don't start it at bedtime if you've just...

1.0 out of 5 stars Annoying
I've always like Scoppettone's mysteries until this one. Lauren likes to present herself as someone who's computer savvy and yet when she starts getting vicious email from a certified psycho, she has no clue. She doesn't know how to find the domain the mail is coming from. She searches for a missing person by posting queries in unrelated newsgroups (very bad...

4.0 out of 5 stars After a Drought, Finally a Worthy Book, February 12, 2001
By
This series features Greenwich Village private investigator Lauren Laurano. Her friend, Elissa, asks Lauren to absolve her of the murder charges pending against her for the murder of her wealthy aunt. Unbeknownst to Lauren, she's beeing stalked by a psychopath. To add to her misery, her relationship seems to be falling apart, and there's seemingly nothing she can do to stop it. This began as excellent series, deteriorated into the doldrums of a so-so series, and with this entry, has come full circle. The writer evokes the Village so we know how the wet streets feel, her characters are well drawn and likable to the point that the reader finds herself hoping Lauren's relationship with Kip can be saved. Normally, I recommend a reader read a series in order if new to it, but I wouldn't subject any reader to the mediocre middle entries in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, cruel cliffhanger ending!, February 27, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Let's Face the Music and Die (Hardcover)
This is easily the best Lauren Laurano story so far, and it's also the best book I've read in a long time. Once again, Scoppettone delivers a deft mix of:
1. taut, fast-paced detective drama; and
2. realistic depiction of three-dimensional lesbian characters.
It's particularly enjoyable when these two subplots overlap in interesting and unexpected ways.

All that being said, I *almost* wish I hadn't read the book, since it was positively cruel to leave things hanging at the end like that. I honestly don't know how I'm going to survive until the next chapter in the Lauren Laurano saga is available. AAAAaarrrgh! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST Lauren Laurano book so far!, August 18, 1996
By A Customer
This review is from: Let's Face the Music and Die (Hardcover)
I loved LET'S FACE THE MUSIC AND DIE! It's the best one in the series so far. Scoppettone deserves major congratulations on this one. My only complaint is that the next one in the series isn't available yet, so I can't run out and buy it. I NEED to know what happens in the first chapter after that CLIFFHANGER ending! C'mon Sandra! We need to know WHAT HAPPENS NEXT! <BR> - Carol Mortimer, N

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! How could you leave us hanging like that?!?, October 16, 1997
This review is from: Let's Face the Music and Die (Hardcover)
I REALLY enjoyed this book! In fact, Once I started reading, I didn't put the book down until I finished it. And then I just stared at the ending saying "Oh, SHI_!! Now I have "Eyes" notifying me the moment the next Laurano book is available. This book was definitely worth the hardback price but don't start it until you can commit some time to finishing it. Believe me, you won't want to put it down!

5.0 out of 5 stars Waiting for the sequel..., October 6, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Let's Face the Music and Die (Hardcover)
I had read and reviewed 3 or 4 of Sandra. Scoppettone's novels about 20 years ago, but just "ran into" the Lauren Laurano books a few weeks ago. WOW! I've read the first four in rapid succession and now I'm praying for the author's continuing good health so that the next installment can be published soon! Each book adds greater insight and dimension to the two main characters and the little insights and comments about NYC life are both witty and accurate. Now let's get Kip and Lauren off that cliff!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mysterious Murder in Manhattan, June 20, 1997
By A Customer
Of all the lesbian mystery writers, I think Sandra Scoppottone is my favorite. In her newest novel, P.I. Lauren Laurano and Kip, her girlfriend of 14 years are drifting apart, and Lauren is having a hard time resisting the charms of Alex, a young and sexy fashion designer she meets on-line. Uh-oh! But this is all background to solving yet another mysterious murder in Manhattan. Not to mention having to confront a scary sleazeball scum who's out to get Lauren for putting him away years ago. What can I say? It's a page turner, especially with the surprise ending that left me eagerly awaiting the next installment. (And I'm not referring to the who-dunnit) If you haven't read Scoppottone's other Lauren Laurano mysteries, buy them all for GREAT summer reading

If you're a lesbian, and maybe even if you're not, you will enjoy checking email and on line romance with Lauren. And that ending! Talk about a cliffhanger!
