LET'S GET TO IT is Kylie Minogue's fourth album, coming hot on the heels of the ground-breaking RHYTHM OF LOVE. The fourth and last complete album produced by Minogue and her cohorts, Stock and Waterman, is quite possibly her best work to date. The songs have a more sultry and often melancholy sound, which set up the template for her DeConstruction recordings. The album opens with "Word Is Out", complete with a funky hip-hop styled rhythm track and (this time around) real live horns. One particularly good track, "Too Much of a Good Thing", borrows heavily from Lisa Lisa's "Let The Beat Hit 'Em", but is, nonetheless one of the strongest tracks on the album. "Finer Feelings", in its original version here, places our perky Miss Kylie in her first bonafide adult role- "What is love without the finer feelings? It's just sex without the sexual healing..." Glad to see that she has joined the rest of her generation and discovered the joy and pain of the old bump and grind. Her duet with Keith Washington, "If You Were With Me Now", remains one of her brightest moments. It is a lush ballad full of the romantic flourishes and sweeping strings one would expect in a duet. The album closes with a pure throw-away track entitled "I Guess I Like It Like That". There's not much that can be considered original on this track as the title line is directly sampled from a late 80s club track of the same name. The rest of the music was "borrowed" from 2Unlimited's "Get Ready For This", which was signed for release by PWL International, but held for release until a couple months after Minogue's album debuted. Subsequent releases of this song prompted PWL to credit the songwriters as Stock/Waterman/Minogue/DeCoster/Wilde.

Pick this one up... it's a keeper.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Guess I Like It... Like THAT, March 26, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Let's Get to It (Audio CD)
Word Is Out is great. (Single: #16)

Give Me Just A Little More Time is great. (Single: #2)

Too Much Of A Good Thing is brilliant.

Finer Feelings is great. Original album version. (Single: #11)

If You Were With Me Now is great. (Single: #4)

Let's Get To It is brilliant.

Right Here Right Now is brilliant.

Live And Learn is brilliant.

No World Without You is brilliant.

She sings "without you" like another viewer suggested, instead of "witou-choo" like others would sing.

I Guess I Like It Like That is a brilliant dance track. (Un-noticed single: #49)

This dance track goes on for 6 minutes and also features Tony King and the Visionmasters.

Tony King has remixed such hits as Let's Get To It and Step Back In Time.

Out of interest Step Back In Time was a single and charted at #4.

Let's Get To It charted at #15 in the UK and spent 12 weeks on the Top 100 UK Albums Chart.

It's as simple as that. (Or not so simple!)

4.0 out of 5 stars The least aknowledged Kylie album., March 22, 2002

This review is from: Let's Get to It (Audio CD)
I bought this album in Australia many years back when it was released and I always felt it was an album that deserved the same attention 'Fever' is now receiving. My Sister eventually pinched the album off of me while I was travelling and I have missed it ever since. She likes it too much to give it back.
It still has all the disco hooks that she is well received for, but it is a much more understated sound - perfect for that long trip in the car. The strongest tracks I thought were "Right Here, Right Now" and "Live and Learn". Neither tracks were ever released as singles as far as I know, which is something I have noticed with many of her releases. I think that many of her great tracks are never released as singles, perhaps defining the save the best until the end ethos.
Over all it is a sexy, catchy album and like so much of her music, has not faded with the years. This is definitely one of Kylies hidden gems, and I remember it left me feeling like I wanted more by the time the last track ends.
So playing it once is just not enough, it will seduce you unexpectedly, and i can't wait for my new copy to arrive to listen to again. This album never got the credit it deserved.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you are a Kylie fan you have to have this, May 22, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Let's Get to It (Audio CD)
Before I start sharing my opinions on this album, I would just like to say a quick get well message for Kylie. Many (certainly me) were shocked by Kylie's early-stage breast cancer and I hope she knows and understands how much we are thinking of her. I admire her work very much and hope she recovers extremely quickly, as she is most likely to. The showgirl tour was also amazing and I was saddened to hear about the cancelling of this and saddened to hear about Kylie's disaster itself. The album LET'S GET TO IT is a great buy, if you are a REAL Kylie fan. This is her fourth album, as she released the following albums before this: KYLIE, ENJOY YOURSELF and RHYTHM OF LOVE.

This album faired rather poor in the UK, only reaching #15 - in Kylie's home, Australia, the album peaked at #13. This album still had SOME hit singles, e.g Give Me Just A Little More Time and duet with Keith Washington, If You Were With Me Now.

The tracks from this album are:
01 Word Is Out
(Also available in Australia: Summer Breeze 7" Mix)
(Single charted at #16 in the UK and #10 in Australia)
02 Give Me Just A Little More Time
(Single was a huge hit in UK, charting at #2. In Australia, the single charted at #24)
03 Too Much Of A Good Thing
04 Finer Feelings (Album Version)
(Also available: Brothers In Rhythm 7" Mix)
(Single charted at #11 in the UK and #60 in Australia)
05 If You Were With Me Now (Duet With Keith Washington)
(Single charted at #4 in the UK and #23 in Australia)
06 Let's Get To It
07 Right Here, Right Now
08 Live And Learn
09 No World Without You
10 I Guess I Like It Like That
(Single charted at #49 in the UK)

Overall, this album is a great buy. Even though the album did not sell as much as the other PWL recordings, this album may be the finest of them. This album ranges from Techno (I Guess I Like It Like That) to R'n'B (Word Is Out) the most. It also includes some great and beautiful ballads like If You Were With Me Now and No World Without You. Along with this album, I would also reccommend: RHYTHM OF LOVE.

5.0 out of 5 stars It is better than other reviews have indicated, May 25, 1999

This Kylie album, although not being as high energy as her previous albums, it features a pleasent mix of mid tempo pop, sultry ballads, a novelty dance track and some great high energy pop cheese. True on a couple of tracks Kylie's vocals do not stand out very clearly, but that doesn't detract from the excellence of those particular songs. Let's Get To It features 10 tracks, 4 of which were top 20 singles, 2 of those made the top 5, all of which are great.

5.0 out of 5 stars I guess I like Kylie like that!, November 4, 2001
This review is from: Let's Get to It (Audio CD)
The team of Stock-Aitken-Waterman is replaced more in part by Stock-Waterman-Minogue on Let's Get To It. The same snappy pop is there, but there's an emphasis on single-oriented material that doesn't sound have that "hurriedly cranked out of the singles sausage-factory sound". No, for her final go-around with the production team who put her on the map of fame, she breaks through even more than she did with Rhythm Of Love.

"Word Is Out" has her using a Full Force style chorus without going into Sam Fox's foray of hip-hop. Brassy horns, bouncy synth percussions, and other instruments bounce this nice little number along.

Then comes one of three really big crown jewels. Her cover of Chairman of the Board's "Give Me Just A Little More Time" with its brassy horn section is just what's needed to take the taste out of sour grapes from anyone's mouth. Given the material of her last four albums, there's something to be said for saving

The lovely "If You Were With Me Now", a duet with Keith Washington, is the best ballad she's ever done, and will stand in history as a perfect song for dear ones separated through great distances. If the lush string section doesn't pull your heartstrings, it's time to get a new violin.

The other big ballad here, "No World Without You", is more on the simplistic side, the only instrument being a guitar while Kylie does her thing. The theme is identical to "If You Were With Me Now"

And now, best for last. Old school techno fans will be on fire with "I Guess I Like It Like That". Sure, there were the rocket-paced songs on her first album, but this song leaves those in the dust. "Gotta keep it pumpin' it up cos I like it". Programming "Give Me Just A Little More Time" and this song is a perfect tonic for boring office work short of blowing the workplace altogether.

All the other songs are worthy without being filler. "Right Here Right Now", "Too Much Of A Good Thing", and "Live And Learn" serve as better-than-average transitions to the real gems on this album.

After this, Kylie would go into a transitional period before going back to her roots with Light Years.

3.0 out of 5 stars Kylie closes out an era--and just in time., September 24, 1998

LET'S GET TO IT is Kylie Minogue's fourth album, coming hot on the heels of the ground-breaking RHYTHM OF LOVE. This would be the last regular album that Kylie would make for the Stock-Aikman-Waterman production team, and from its texture, it seems that she picked the right time to make her exit. After the sensational RHYTHM, the SAW crew just couldn't keep the energy going, and their frantic album-a-year pace was finally taking its toll. Despite Kylie's increased involvement on the production end--she helped to write six of the songs this time around--this is without a doubt the weakest Minogue effort of all. Too often on LET'S GET TO IT, Kylie comes off as being nothing more than a back-up singer on her own album. In fact, the very last track ("I Guess I Like It Like That") is actually a song by the Visionmasters and Tony King, where she IS a back-up singer on her own album! But even when she's not at the top of her game, Kylie is still formidable, and there are a few gems to be had here. The best of these is "If You Were With Me Now," which she performs with Keith Washington, and remains to date the most beautiful love song she has ever done. Other notables include "Word Is Out," "Finer Feelings," and her cover of "Give Me Just A Little More Time." As all of this album's best tunes can be found on Kylie's GREATEST HITS anthology, you would be better off sticking to that, and only pick up LET'S GET TO IT if you're a completest who simply has to own everything that Kylie Minogue has ever made.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lets get to the FACTS - Right here, Right Now, October 5, 2004
This review is from: Let's Get to It (Audio CD)
Kylie's fourth album and final orginal studio album for PWL studios is a mixed offering and may not appeal to all tastes. Released in 1991, the album finds Kylie finishing up her contractual obligation to the declining PWL studios and producers Stock & Waterman (now down to a duo with the exit of Matt Aitken)and taking an active role in songwriting. The music scene itself is changing with early 90s dance on the wane and the grunge scene just over the horizon. The result is a mish-mash of styles and a more mature production that is clearly a departure for Kylie. Lead-off single "word is Out" with its Urban/ Hip-Hop sound was a disaster at UK #16 and broke Kylie's string of top ten hits. The album fared poorly in the UK charts but eventually yielded 2 hit singles, a cover of "give me just a little more time" and ballad "if you were with me now." The album soon faded which is a shame as it contains some of Kylie's best songs. Here is a track by track review:

01`Word is Out - A departure from Kylie's typical Hi-NRG dance, "word is Out" featured a slowed down and very Urban sound. A song about a cheating lover, the video featured Kylie as a raunchy street girl amid suppossed pimps and street gangs. The single was radically remixed in Australia as "the summer breeze mix." Not Kylie's best moment.

02 Give me Just a Little more Time - PWL relied heavily on covering old classics to secure a UK hit and this track is no exception. The song is a fairly fathful rendition of the Chairman of the Board's original track with some extra vocal stuttering thrown in for good effect. A decnt cover but overall pretty unremarkable.

03. Too much of a Good Thing - A mid-tempo dance track that borrows heavily from the sound created by Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam. The interesting thing about this song is that Kylie's vocals are so low that it sounds like the background singers dominate the track. The song is great dance-pop with its laid-back vibe and sampled voice-over telling us "We're gonna do it-lets get to it!"

04 Fioer Feelings - One of the tracks to give Kylie a writing credit and actually one of her most mature works ever. The song is very atypical PWL in sound and the single version even more so with its Brothers-In Rhythm remix. The song is a slow, cool ballad with kylie asking 'what is love without the finer feelings?' A true-standout track from the album with an awesome B&W video to match it.

05. If You Were With Me Now - One of the top ten hits from the album is also a duet with American RnB singer Keith Washington. A fairly straightforward ballad not too far removed from Kylie's early nega-hit "especially for you" In all honestly its pretty boring but inoffensive stuff.

06. Lets Get To It - The title track is probably the hardest track on the album to describe in terms of musical style. A mid-tempo, slightly hip-hop sounding track with bouncy synths and some strings for good measures. Once again background vocals seems to dominate (this time predominately male) with their "ooohs" while Kylie invites us to "lets get to it- right now." I could see where people would hate this song although personally I found it to grow on me with additional listens.

07. Right Here, Right Now - If Ever there was a woefully missed single opportunity in Kylie's career,"right Here, Right Now" would be it. No other track on the album explemfies why Stock Aitken Waterman's brand of dance-pop dominated the UK charts in the late 80s. With its thumping bass, big brass and relentless beats "right Here, right now" would justify the purchase of the album alone. Kylie's vocals are super sexy as she beckons her lover to come to her "right here, right now." Arguably the best track on the album.

08.Live & Learn - Stylistically similar to "too much of a good thing" without Kylie's voice drowned in background singers. A rather positive message about moving on. Nothing much to talk about but a decent track.

09. No World Without You - Another ballad and one thats pretty good. A nearly acoustic track with Kylie being accompanied primarily a guitar. Kylie delivers a great performance.

10. I Guess I like it Like That - Obviously influenced by the Belgian brand of techno that was being made by 2 Unlimted and AB Logic, this track features Kylie in full techno rave mode. The song itself is a frantic mix of 130+ bpms, vocal loops, and piano breakdowns. I believe many fans felt like this was the musical direction Kylie's post-PWL career with DecOnstruction would take. A hyper and rather fitting end to a great album.

Overall "Lets get to it" finds Kylie experimenting with a wide range of musical styles in order to try and grow musically. Hip-Hop, rave, RnB, techno and acoustic pop are all found here in an eclectic mix. On first listen the album would sound like a horrible mix. However, upon further listening I believe most people would appreciate most tracks and the album as a whole. Having listened to it for 10+ years I think its one of Kylie's most interesting and underated albums.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kylie Mellows Down., July 5, 2002
By
This review is from: Let's Get to It (Audio CD)
Kylie grows up and mellows down on her fourth album, which has less of the high energy grooves and more mid-tempo, r&b-lite slices of pop. "The Word Is Out" is a lightweight new jack swing number that sounds way different from everything Kylie has done before. Also good are the Chic-like "Too Much of a Good Thing" and the underrated "Finer Things." Interestingly, Kylie's worst singles are her covers, but she finally pulls it off on "Give Me Just a Little More Time." But fear not; the disc's closer, "I Like it Like That," is the high energy romp we've come to expect from this singer. "Let's Get to It" is a departure for not only Minogue, but for Stock Aitken Waterman, who are known to write very similiar neo-disco songs. But here, they show a little range and take chances. Looks like those chances paid off pretty well.
