A settlement of differences in which each side makes concessions.

That is what Heaven and Hamid do in Ms. Davis's new romance. She did a great job with the cultural differences of the male character. It was entertaining and the couple was just adorable.

After years in a relationship with a man she thought she would marry and raise a family with, Heaven has to rethink her plan when her ex not only decided to go into business by himself, but dumped her for a white woman. Instead of dealing with her hurt and anger, she refocuses her mind on her career and opening her own business.

While eating lunch one day, she is approached by Hamid, a resident doctor from Pakistan. Heaven isn't interested in the good doctor, nor does she need his advice he gives. Unfortunately, she can't shake him. After a couple of chance encounters, Hamid feels it's fate that they have crossed paths, and sets about getting her to let down her guard long enough to get to know each other. These two both come into the relationship with stereotypes of one another, which Hamid uses to his advantage. Heaven is not without her suspicions, but Hamid is resilent. Soon he has to go back to Pakistan, just like Heaven, he has committments that he's made.

In spite of these promises and their cultural/religious differences they decide to marry. Hamid determined to keep his promise to his father, and to Heaven, he goes back and forth between the continents. In the meantime, Heaven watches her business grow and becomes sucessful.

Heaven has accomplished her goal, but at what cost? Her husband is across the water and seeing him only three times a year is not cutting it. They both are unhappy with the living arrangements, but Heaven doesn't want to plan her dreams around a man again likes she'd done before. She realizes Hamid has made sacrifices and compromises throughout their relationship, and she feels she needs to do the same.

A lot of readers, including myself, love to read about other cultures and how these effect a romance between two people, instead of the cookie cutter black/white pairings. These cultural differences make up how each character behaves and deal within an relationship. Environment, culture, tradition, and personal beliefs. These all brings something to a relationship and LET'S GET IT ON has perfectly showed the reader a couple who has to compromise and work together in order to find happiness within theirs.

Ms. Davis's secondary characters bring comic relief to this story line, along with the couple. I felt I was watching a fun and romantic movie play out. The couple was well developed, Heaven was conflicted enough that you wanted her to take a chance. Hamid was loving, yet he was strong and protective. Their feelings were always out there without the writer beating you over the head with it.

Kudos Ms. Davis to another successful novel.

I agree with the last review. This book was different having a romance between a Black American woman and a man from Pakistan. I loved both of the characters equally and found Hamid charming. Heaven had issues, but Hamid was willing to help her work through them. I actually have a least five favorite scenses in the book that either made me laugh or made me sigh. It's probably the best interracial book I've read since No Ordinary Love in my opinion. As soon as I finished Let's Get it on, I immediately missed the characters and wanted to read it again. These characters go on an emotional journey throughout the book and the book is written in different stages. The characters you meet at the beginning grow by the end.

The book is not perfect. I did wish that there was more physical descriptions of the other characters in the book, but I loved the descriptions of Heaven and Hamid. The book caught me from the first scene and I loved how Heaven described herself as being "...short, dark-complexioned with short hair, no breasts to speak of, and very little booty" (9). Yet, Hamid thought she was beautiful the first time he saw her. I recommend this book!

I really enjoyed this book.

I loved the chemistry between Hamid and Heaven and the way Hamid wouldn't give up on making Heaven his'.

For some reason the love scenes in this story are way more heartfelt and erotic than in any of the Davis' books I've read. And this is the first Dyanne Davis book that had me crying at times!

The book is money well spend.
