5.0 out of 5 stars An outstanding introduction and early guide for children preparing for their entry into the first grade of elementary school, August 11, 2006
This review is from: Let's Get Ready for First Grade! (Let's Get Ready Series) (Paperback)
Let's Get Ready For First Grade! by Linda Desimowich and Stacey Kannenberg is enhanced with color illustrations by Joyce Babel-Worth and provides an outstanding introduction and early guide for children preparing for their entry into the first grade of elementary school. Young students will follow along the thoroughly "kid-friendly" description of such first grade curriculum activities including spelling, reading, math, and more, as Let's Get Ready For First Grade! captures their full attention with fun and interesting activities and encouraging presentations of first-grade materials. Let's Get Ready For First Grade! is very highly recommended for all parents and educators for children between ages four and eight for its remarkable compilation and insightful content. Also very highly recommended from the "Let's Get Ready For" series is Let's Get Ready For Kindergarten!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Guidance and Guidelines, January 15, 2010
This review is from: Let's Get Ready for First Grade! (Let's Get Ready Series) (Paperback)
whatdidIthink

I was delighted to receive my copy of "Let's Get Ready for First Grade". It has been a wonderful companion to our regular curriculum. I have found it to be dead on with what my girls are learning right now in 1st grade.

As a home schooling mom...I have learned that the one main goal of teaching is "Try, try and try" in others words if one program or manipulative doesn't work...try another one and another..you will findsomething that works for your child and that interests them. While I have twins they both learn a bit differently. Skylar is a more organized learner but she has to reiterate every direction you give her. Rylan would rather have you say it once then let her at it. The Let's Get Ready for First Grade book worked well for both their learning styles.

Let's Get Ready for First Grade covers such topics as:

* Name & Phone Numbers
* Counting to 100
* Ordinal Numbers
* Odd & Even Numbers
* Food Groups
* Measuring
* Basic Money & Value
* Understanding Weather Concepts
* Basic addition

I started to carry the books around in my book bag and purse because they were the perfect thing to pull out while waiting at the doctor's office or at the dinner table. What I enjoyed the most, as a teacher, was that the information provided in Let's Get Ready for First Grade was not overwhelming for your child. It was the perfect morsel of information on an upcoming or new school topic. Allowing just an introduction gave my girls the desire to learn more.

The books are designed with a very smooth texture so you can actually use a wipe on/off dry erase marker with the book.

As a mom and as a teacher I would recommend that you pick up a copy of Let's Get Ready for Kindergarten and Let's Get Ready for 1st Grade. They will be valuable tools whether you are a home school family or your child attends private or public school. As a parent we want to be informed and up to date on what our child needs to know and should learn...this is a great resource to help our children grow.

I haven't actually USED this book with my son yet. I bought it at the same time I bought the Kindergarten one (which we are using now). He won't need it for about a year. However, I LOVE the Kindergarten one and I have looked through this one extensively and it looks to be just as wonderful. I know it will be an invaluable tool when he is getting ready for 1st grade.

5.0 out of 5 stars Let's Get Ready for First Grade., September 22, 2010
This review is from: Let's Get Ready for First Grade! (Let's Get Ready Series) (Paperback)
The book introduces the teacher, Ms. Best, and the children in class, then tackles vowels, consonants, short sounds, long sounds, prefixes, suffixes, etc. This book is also dry erase marker safe.

I really like the Let's Get Ready Series, and hope that Stacey plans to publish books for the rest of the elementary grades.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rich Resource for Parents, July 17, 2008
This review is from: Let's Get Ready for First Grade! (Let's Get Ready Series) (Paperback)
From cover to cover, there are easy, age-appropriate lessons galore. Being an early childhood educator, speaker, and author, I love the bright colors, thick easy-wipe pages, and the Parent and Caregiver Tips on the back page. This is a book you want to do TOGETHER with your child, and remember all children learn at their own pace. My only caution to adults is to avoid drilling a child with lessons -- make learning fun and model your interest in learning and kids will follow your example.

The book is written by a mom who knows her stuff. Plus 10% of profits will be donated to charitable organizations. What great reasons to give this book a try.

"Ready for Kindergarten?" is one chapter in another helpful book for early childhood parents, The Birth to Five Book: Confident Childrearing Right from the Start.

5.0 out of 5 stars SFC 5 star review, January 15, 2008
This review is from: Let's Get Ready for First Grade! (Let's Get Ready Series) (Paperback)
Author Stacey Kannenberg searched for a book explaining what a child needs to know before entering Kindergarten so that she could help her children be ready for school. When she didn't find what she needed, she took matters into her own hands and created a series of books to help parents across the country to be "on the same page" with their schools so that they can help prepare their children for their school years.

The result is this colorful, dry-erased 32-page quality book that will guide you and your child through the ABCs of what is covered in core First Grade curriculum across the nation. This book is patterned exactly like the previous book, Let's Get Ready For Kindergarten! but there's a new first grade teacher, animal mascot, and schoolchildren to guide your child through their first grade learning in a fun way.

Let's Get Ready for First Grade! just won the prestigious 2007 Teachers' Choice Awards for the Family, as well as several other awards too numerous to mention.

5.0 out of 5 stars Be Ready for First Grade!, July 30, 2007
This review is from: Let's Get Ready for First Grade! (Let's Get Ready Series) (Paperback)
"The Cedar Valley Kids" are back in the second installment of this nationally recognized children's series, with a new teacher, Mrs. Best, in Let's Get Ready for First Grade. This is an absolute must have for parents with children preparing for elementary school. Age appropriate, thorough, colorful and entertaining, Mrs. Best guides the `reader' through a myriad of activities which are all taken from the standard first grade curriculum. From vowels and consonants, proper pronunciation of short and long sounds, to the always tricky 'silent e', children will laugh while they learn. Lessons build upon themselves, utilizing that which was mastered yesterday as the base to build something new today. For example the lessons dealing with numbers begin with counting, differentiate between odds and evens, skip counting, and finally addition and subtraction of small sets. (1+2 or 7-3)

The Let's Get Ready series demonstrates that learning can be fun and exciting. And with parents being the single most influential person in any child's life, it only makes sense that establishing a positive attitude towards learning, education and books in general starts at home. It's now easier than ever for busy parents to spend quality time with their children, building the basic skills necessary to succeed, while at the same time reinforcing the family bond. I have heard many parents say "I would do anything for my child"... all the work has been done, organizing the information that meets the standard guidelines, presenting it in an informative, exciting and entertaining way, via a reusable format (high gloss, non-stick, dry erase compatible pages) at an affordable price -- what more could parents and educators ask for? Of course.... Let's Get Ready for... Second....Third...

Happy Reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have resource for parents of 1st graders!, September 27, 2006
This review is from: Let's Get Ready for First Grade! (Let's Get Ready Series) (Paperback)
If my kids were in First Grade (or kindergarten; see companion book "Let's Get Ready for Kindergarten!"), I would definitely add these books to their collection. I am going to give them to my niece, who is 4 years old and will enter kindergarten next fall.

The books are FULL of a wide range of basic information kids either need or will learn during kindergarten and first grade. I like that the books are written for a range of ages; kids can work to their ability, and will enjoy learning more with the well-designed, easy-to-read, colorful, fun pages.

Most workbooks of this type are much larger than these books; the size of "Let's Get Ready for Kindergarten" and "Let's Get Ready for First Grade" makes them easy to fit into diaper bags or mom's purse or even leave in the car. The pages are designed for dry-erase markers, meaning kids can use each page over and over. A great gift for kids would be the book and a package of different colored dry-erase markers!

A definite must-have resource for young children; hopefully the authors will continue the series!
