Lady In Waiting by Donna Hill
Noah Hardcastle and Tara Mitchell are engaged, but Noah keeps putting off the idea of actually setting a date. Things get rocky when Rachel shows up in D.C. She had left Noah five years ago to become a jazz pianist. Now she is rich, famous, and determined to get Noah back.

Irresistible Attraction by Brenda Jackson
Tyrone "Roni" Hardcastle is the Entertainment Director of "Leo's Supper Club" in D.C. He meets Sydney Corbain as he caters a triple wedding. Neither expected to run into each other in New York nine months later.

Blind Date by Francis Ray
Tanner Rafferty is a wealthy businessman currently in D.C. to make sure his new hotel opens on time. While having lunch at Leo's, his eyes fall upon Ayanna Hardcastle. Ayanna is trying to keep her best friend from setting her up on any more blind dates. In a moment of madness, Ayanna says that she is already seeing someone. However, Ayanna did not expect Tanner to come up to the table and pretend to be the one she is dating.

**** Four great stories by four of today's hottest African-American romance authors. The book downright sizzles in some areas, so consider yourself warned. Each story centers around the restaurant owned by the Hardcastle family. This novel is ideal for those rainy afternoons that you find yourself stuck indoors. ****

5.0 out of 5 stars Let's Get It On, November 18, 2004
By
This review is from: Let's Get It On (Paperback)
The fabulous four have done it again in this sequel to Welcome to Leo's. We get another glimpse into the life of the Hardcastle family and those that frequent their supper club.

Rochelle Alers - Is it possible for two who have loved and lost, to find love again with each other? Alers' story Love Lessons answers that question. Tyrell Hardcastle, master chef at Leo's, thinks Viola Chapman is the woman who can teach him to love again. Viola on the other hand, feels that it is too late for her to marry and have a family. Tyrell sets out to prove her wrong.

Donna Hill - Readers were introduced to Noah Hardcastle and Tara Mitchell's relationship in Welcome to Leo's. Three years have passed. The couple has been engaged for two years, but have yet to reach the altar. What happens when Noah's previous love Rachel returns to town wanting to pick up where they left off? Rachel is playing for keeps. Who will be the lady in waiting? Readers also revisit the now married Clyde and Jae Burrell, who previously met and fell in love at Leo's.

Brenda Jackson - In this story, readers meet Linc Corbain's sister Sydney. She and Tyrone Hardcastle, Tyrell's twin, found themselves irresistibly attracted to each other at Linc and Raven's wedding. Fast forward nine months - Sydney and Tyrone run into each other in New York. They decide to act on their attraction, but agree it's no prelude to love or commitment. What happens when each find themselves unable to keep the agreement?

Francis Ray - Ayanna Hardcastle, the only female partner at Leo's, is sick and tired of her friends and family trying to hook her up with men. To avoid yet another blind date, she lies to her friend that she is seeing someone. She's almost caught up in that lie until a stranger, Tanner Rafferty, comes to her rescue. Tanner is a wealthy business man who is used to having things his way and women chasing him. What happens when he finds himself doing the chasing?

As always, great job ladies!

4.0 out of 5 stars Four Sizzling Hot Novellas, December 28, 2004
This review is from: Let's Get It On (Paperback)
Four of the best romance writers get together to give their readers a sizzling hot romance read for those cold winter days. The four novellas featured in Lets Get It On, show why these writers are at the top of the game. The setting is the infamous Leo's Supper club, found in Washington, DC. Leo's has been a place where lovers met and this time the four owners of Leo's find themselves falling in love.

In Love Lessons by Rochelle Alers, chef Tyrell Hardcastle receives a request to mentor high school students in the Culinary Arts. He contacts the teacher /coordinator of the program for a meeting to clarify his duties. When he meets Viola Chapman he knows he wants to get to know this woman better and what better way than through her taste buds. Things begin to heat up between the two of them in the kitchen and in the bedroom.

In Lady in Waiting by Donna Hill, Noah Hardcastle and Tara Mitchell have been engaged for two years and still Noah has no plans to tie the knot. Tara has had enough, returns Noah's ring and walks out of his life. When she walks out, an old flame Rachel Beaumont enters determined to make Noah love her again. Noah is then torn between two loves and must follow his heart to make a satisfying decision.

In Irresistible Attraction by Brenda Jackson, Tyrone Hardcastle is in New York working as a visiting music professor. Sydney Corbain is in New York City for rest and relaxation after trying an extremely tough case. While Sydney is out shopping, Tyrone spots her. He can not forget how attracted he was to her when they exchanged heated glances a year before at her brother`s wedding. Since they are both away from friends and family while in New York, what better time for them to act upon their mutual attraction to each other.

In Blind Date by Francis Ray, Ayanna Hardcastle, finds herself falling for the hotel developer Tanner Rafferty. When Tanner overhears a conversation between Ayanna and her best friend, that leads her friend to believe that she and Tanner are involved in a relationship, Tanner decides to make her words become the truth and coerce her into dating him. Kicking and fighting against falling in love, they both find they cannot resist being without each other.

This is a great read for all those who love romance novels and for those who are new to the romance genre. My advice is to light a candle, pour a glass of wine, put on some soft music and enjoy. This one you won't be disappointed with.

4.0 out of 5 stars Slow the roll....but a good read.., November 27, 2005
This review is from: Let's Get It On (Paperback)
I appreciated learning about the Hardcastle family...they were vivid, sexy individuals. Since Brenda Jackson is my favorite, I read her story first...loved it. I went to Francis Ray's next, then Rochelle Alers and finally Donna Hill. All the sisters deserve praise for setting a romantic, heart-tugging tone. However, Ms Ray's story left me feeling like I didn't experience that heart pounding feeling often found in foreplay and the whole beautiful experience of sex. It felt like it was over before it began. Ms Alers and Ms Hill invited the reader into the character's bedroom by taking it a little slower and offering more descriptive phrases. Ms Jackson hands down, takes the reader all the way from foreplay to orgasm...you can feel it, you're there! I did purchase two more of Ms Ray's book. I hope in these books, there's a little slower pace for the blow by blow interactions between the characters. For me, that's where the intensity lies.

4.0 out of 5 stars Let's Get It On Indeed!, August 9, 2005
By
This review is from: Let's Get It On (Paperback)
Since I finished Welcome to Leo's not too long ago, I couldn't wait to read this follow up to the Hardcastle Family. Surprisingly, Ms. Jackson's story wasn't my favorite. I won't give away too much of the storylines, here are my opinions:

Blind Date by Francis Ray (Tanner and Ayanna) - This was my favorite. The opening scene with Ayanna trying to get out of yet another blind date was priceless! I could just imagine the shock on her face when Tanner approached their table. Good chemistry between the two main characters made this an enjoyable story with a little bit of a twist in the plot concerning Tanner's sister.

Lady in Waiting by Donna Hill (Noah & Tara) - This story came in second for me. I got so mad at Noah for making Tara wait in a never-ending two year engagement. I had to give her credit for standing up for herself and telling him to get his act together and to give her a call if he ever did. She didn't sit around twiddling her thumbs waiting on his call either. Noah's ex-girlfriend (who is a big star) shows up and has decided that she will stop at nothing to get Noah back. Oh me oh my, what an interesting love triangle.

Love Lessons by Rochelle Alers (Viola & Tyrell) - Here's where the stories started getting boring. The one different thing about this one is the Viola is older than Tyrell. Other than that, it was just blah. And somebody please tell me how Viola was able to afford all those nice things (condo, furniture, paintings, etc.) on a teacher's salary??? Did I miss something in the plot where she won the lottery or something??

Irresistable Attraction by Brenda Jackson (Tyrone & Sydney) - The first 2 or 3 pages sizzle and then the story fizzes out. I was so bored that I stopped reading this and read Perfect Timing then remembered that I needed to finish it. Predictable ending, but blazin' hot love scenes typical of Ms. Jackson.

I think this is a must read for those who read Welcome to Leo's.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely perfect!!!, March 5, 2005
This review is from: Let's Get It On (Paperback)
Each story was well written and this book is on my list of books i just HAD to read in one night. Rochelle's story was my personal favorite but each story holds you captivated until you reach the end. And is it necessary to say how sexy each was. Grab a glass of water and fan before you tackle this one!!

5.0 out of 5 stars four superb contemporary romances, November 6, 2004
This review is from: Let's Get It On (Paperback)
Rochelle Alers. DC Carver High School teacher Viola Chapman is responsible for this year's career initiative event so she sent letters to twenty-two businesses soliciting their help. Tyrell Hardcastle, part owner of Leo's Supper Club, agrees to meet with Viola. When they meet they are attracted to one another, but Viola feels she is too old for the younger man.

Donna Hill. Noah Hardcastle and Tara Mitchell are engaged, but he refuses to set a date. Jazz pianist Rachel Beaumont returns to town after leaving Noah to further her career five years ago. She plans to retrieve Noah.

Brenda Jackson. Roni Hardcastle is away from the supper club to teach music for six weeks at Columbia. He fondly thinks back nine months to when he met Sydney Corbain at her brother's wedding and would not mind seeing her again. His wish comes true as the litigation lawyer is taking a needed rest in town.

Francis Ray. Tanner Rafferty visits D.C. to ensure that his new hotel opens on time. He is having lunch at Leo's when he overhears Ayanna Hardcastle tells her friend Sheri she is seeing someone so she does not want a blind date with the latest hunk offering. Tanner sees an opening to meet the beautiful woman so he joins their table saying he is her boyfriend.

These four superb contemporary romances each center each on one of the admirable Hardcastle siblings. Each tale is a delightful stand alone yet enhances the other novellas with consistent use of family members and the club they own, making for a delightful anthology.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Let's Get It On (Paperback)
This book is the reason why Alers, Hill, Jackson, and Ray are some of my favorite authors. Unfortunately I can't find "Welcome To Leo's" so I can fully understand how the characters came to be, but this is a good book none the less.

Winter is almost here, and there's nothing like curling up with a blanket, a cup of your favorite winter beverage and a good book, escaping into a world where all else ceases to exist as you lose yourself in the characters' lives. And what better than a book complete with beautiful love stories, steamy sex scenes and breathtaking passion?

LET'S GET IT ON, a compilation of four novellas, reintroduces us to the Hardcastles, the owners of Leo's, an upscale supper club in Washington, D. C. Come take a ride on the space shuttle of love with Tyrell, Tyrone, Noah and Ayanna as they each learn to conquer their doubts and insecurities about love and marriage before their chance at happily ever after escapes them permanently.

What do you get when four of the greatest African-American romance writers come together in a collective literary effort? I'll tell you...you get four sensuous tales that are sure to appeal to the romantic in all of us. Each story was well written and I knew going in that each story would be short and sweet, but being the hopeless romantic that I am, I wanted to spend a little more time with the characters, getting caught up in their lives as they take that tumultuous road to everlasting love.
