4.0 out of 5 stars Good in many ways, August 2, 1999

This review is from: Let's Go 1999: Greece (Paperback)
I used books from the Let's Go series for a recent trip and enjoyed them overall. Let's Go provides student travelers with excellent information on entertainment, clubs, bars, restaurants, and hostels/hotels. The Greece edition was particularly good because it was just updated. Just look at the sections describing Santorini and Ios to see what I mean about their descriptions of entertainment: they are quite accurate and descriptive.

However, the series in general is often lacking in map quality, and its cultural information is too brief. Also, non-student travelers may not want to purchase Let's Go Greece because it is directed to a student audience. You can fix map problems by purchasing a city map wherever you are (which you might need to do anyway), and problems with cultural information can be alleviated if you borrow your friend's Lonely Planet guide (which offers excellent self-guided tours and historical information about the sights you visit -- another great choice. Choosing between Lonely Planet and Let's go is generally a matter of preference. Having one of each in a traveling group would be optimal. If it's one or the other, go with Lonely Planet).
