5.0 out of 5 stars Great overall travel guide
This guide is excellent and covers all major cities and day trips from those cities throughout all of Europe. The information is informative and very useful. I love the suggested walking tours and the information such as local emergency numbers, currency exchange, post offices, etc. are great to have when you are actually finally there. 3.0 out of 5 stars Good book, but could be better
Overall, I greatly appreciated the helpful cultural hints, the maps of major cities, and the recommendations on where to eat. The one thing I think this book is lacking is a more comprehensive listing of possible hotels/hostels. The large portion of their recommended housing requires a reservation at least two months in advance, which limited my options and forced me to...

This review is from: Let's Go 2009 Europe (Let's Go: Europe) (Paperback)
This guide is excellent and covers all major cities and day trips from those cities throughout all of Europe. The information is informative and very useful. I love the suggested walking tours and the information such as local emergency numbers, currency exchange, post offices, etc. are great to have when you are actually finally there. The tips in the beginning are excellent - it covers packing tips, a packing list, travel tips (whether or not to get a eurail pass), must haves on your trip and things to think about and plan before you leave. The beginning of each country chapter you get the history of the country which I found very interesting as I cannot remember my old college history courses! The tips on suggestions for places to stay and eat are definitely a must as well as the suggested sights and museums that they highly recommend. They also have suggested itineraries depending on how long you are planning to be in each country. Overall I loved reading this book and loved using this book in Europe even more! Don't start planning your trip without it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Buy!, June 2, 2009
This review is from: Let's Go 2009 Europe (Let's Go: Europe) (Paperback)
This book is absolutely amazing. My husband and I travel every summer and Let's Go books are the only way to go. I really enjoy the additional maps included in the book. They are super helpful and very handy to have in one place, rather than scattered throughout my bag. I also like the step by step directions given in order to get to a particular location. They provide enough info for you to make a decision whether you should check something out or skip it entirely. Then they give you step by step directions on how to get there. Perfect for people who like to explore, but might be a little too timid to ask a native for directions. These books are AWESOME!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Information you won't find elsewhere, January 2, 2008

There's a lot of details on the important things you need to know when traveling. Examples include: what documents you will need in each country, transportation options and their costs, important phone #'s and some detailed maps of the larger cities. It's a good book for people who already know where they are going to but just want more information about it. There are no pictures, just black and white maps.

4.0 out of 5 stars GOOD BUDGET TRAVEL COMPANION, December 30, 2008
This travel guide is a wonderful tool if you are a budget traveler and better if you are traveling as a backpacker. I have used let's go 2 times. Once, in 2000, when I backpacked through Europe for two months and this year when I traveled with my girlfriend through Europe as a budget traveler, not backpacking, and I have to say that in both cases it was awesome. It gives you great useful information.

In general it is incredible and you won't feel right traveling without it but a few cons that I found are the following:

- no information on train schedules

- very few information on budget hotels (focuses more on hostels)

- maps could be a lot better

- the suggested itineraries are not very great (in my opinion, I never follow these. I basically do my own research online)

If you are a person that is only traveling to only a few countries in europe, such as france, england, italy, I would recommend getting the let's go western europe or even the let's go for the individual country your are visiting because it gives you even more information. If you are planning to travel throughout europe I would recommend the normal let's go europe book.

Overall, I would really recommend this book over lonely planet or any other travel guide if you are a backpacker. If you are traveling on a budget I would recommend this, but keep in mind that this is targeted to a very low budget traveler and in the accomodations section, it will provide mostly cheap (but nice) hostels.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not very helpful, June 14, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Overall, my suggestion would be that you buy each guidebook for whatever country you are going to be visiting. The section on Britain in this book is horrific. They give info for a few hotels/hostels and little information about each. I know the book would have to be volumes larger for them to go into much detail, but seriously if you are a budget traveler that needs solid information(as opposed to someone that books tours when they travel) this is not the book for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars great deal for a used copy., January 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
this book has a ton of information on how to go really cheap in europe. It covers so many different countrys that it seems to lack the details some of us are looking for. The only problem with this book is that the maps are printed all the way down INTO the spine of the book. Its almost impossible to see some of the details without cutting the book in half. I don't know if this problem has been fixed in newer editions.

over all if you are thinking of buying this book, buy a used copy.

This review is from: Let's Go 2009 Europe (Let's Go: Europe) (Paperback)
A great book for the young traveler that wants to back pack in Europe and is still learing how to get around and find bargins. The newer editions aren't as good!

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall good guide, August 18, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Let's Go 2009 Europe (Let's Go: Europe) (Paperback)
This guide shines in preparation for a Europe trip. If you're really not familiar with the area and what to sites to see, this gives a great condensed overview, and is great to use in conjunction with other research tools (internet, word of mouth, browsing other guides). Of course, if you know which individual cities you will be visiting, a dedicated guide is much more helpful and gives you more options, but Let's Go is so easy to use and the city maps and metro maps seem like they will come in very handy. The book is very thick, which will add weight to my pack, but I think/hope it will be well worth it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice travel guide, September 17, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Let's Go 2009 Europe (Let's Go: Europe) (Paperback)
Well, It seems a nice travel guide, not so deep, but we are talking of a travel guide of all europe, including European Russia, Croatia, Albania and so on...

The hints about the places to be seen are very useful (I travelled Germany, France and Estonia), the ones about hotels and food I did not used, not because of the book, but because I seldom look for a hotel or a restaurant due a travel guide.
