I found this guide to be very helpful. The reviews of the buildings, architecture and tourist attractions were pretty good. For examples:
- they accurately and poignantly portrayed the Evita museum - good detail about the architecture in lesser known barrios like Once - good detail and suggestions for Museo of Bellas Artes. Many of the recommended bars and restaurants are no longer in existence, or as popular as they were when they were reviewed, but that's life. For example, the "up and coming barrio" of San Telmo barrio portrayed in the book is nothing like San Telmo of 2009, where many of the buildings are for sale and the trendy pubs have closed. A lot of the all-night and late-night restaurants referenced in the book close as early at 1 AM in the slow season. Also, the prices I encountered were about 10-20% more (in pesos) than what was quoted in the book. It seems the inflation rate in Argentina is much higher than the official rate, so take this into account. The book was written by a college student so the humor is oriented toward a 20-something crowd. A few things the book doesn't reference (I don't think) that might help you: - get a pay-as-you-go cell phone when you get into town. - Renting a flat for a week or 3 is a viable option to staying in hostels, hotels and hospidajes - Telos are popular and respectable options for those times when you need an intimate place - It's hard to find a locutorio (internet connection) on Sundays
