What a shock!, December 17, 2002
This review is from: Let's Hang On And 11 Other Hits (Audio CD)
I am a huge fan of the Four Seasons, so after thorougly playing their new 2 disc anthology, I wanted their albums. I bought the Rag Doll LP and was mildly impressed. The songs were fair (not counting the established hits, i.e. rag doll, ronnie etc.) with a few unheard gems like "Huggin My Pillow" and "Danger". But, most of the music wasn't songs I would wanna listen to regularly. I bought this Let's Hang On expecting less, being as I had read that Rag Doll was their best album. Boy was I shocked. This album is a solid 5 stars, especially considering what one would expect from a group not known for their albums. The album starts off with a bang with the popular hit "Working My Way Back to You" and tracks 3 and 7 are both well known hits. (Let's Hang On" and "Opus 17" respectively). But where this album really shines is in the other 9 songs which 90% of people haven't ever heard. "Pity" is a great song and unusually rocking for a Season's tune. "Beggars Parade" is a fantastic song that effectively conveys how many people, "the silent majority" felt about the hippie movement. The two cover songs on the album, "My Prayer" and "Little Darlin" are both well done but not neccesarily great. "Too Many Memories" is a great song that finds Valli really mixing in with that late 60's sound. "Everybody Knows My Name" is the last song and is also fantastic. This album is a great mix of Valli's growly falsetto, Beatles style lyrics, and Motown arrangements. This album is a great album and you owe it to yourself to get it, especially if you are a fan of the four seasons.

The jams they took out were great!, February 18, 2000
This review is from: Let's Hang On And 11 Other Hits (Audio CD)
This is the Curb Records packaging of FV/FS great "Working My Way Back To You" album...it's ok, except, the powers that be took some of the better jams out of the original repertoire and replaced them with jams they thought would suit whatever... "Sundown", "Can't Get Enough of You Baby" and "Coming Out in the World" were strong enough to be able to be singles....in fact, several other groups including Smash Mouth has done "Can't Get enough..." and I was raging elsewhere about albums made into CDs with jams out of order--different ain't always better. So hopefully we can stop the powers that be of this practice....

4 Seasons deliver...again!!, September 6, 2005
This review is from: Let's Hang On And 11 Other Hits (Audio CD)
By 1966 when this record was originally released, The 4 Seasons career was starting to wind down...at least on the charts. But....don't think this is a weak album, it isn't. It's actually a very strong album. Apart from the hits, there are outstanding versions of "My Prayer" and "Little Darlin'". In all, a strong album...up with their best.
