Lots of Books, Bad Breakdown,

This book would have been a valuable resource, if it listed the books by reading level. I was hoping to find good chapter books for my daughter to read (2nd grade reading level). But all I find is a huge chapter labeled "Chapter Books: Ages 6-11". This book should only be recommended for parents who have lots of time to cruise the library going from book to book, looking for something at an appropriate reading level for their child.

Good but not the best guide out there,

This is a decent guide, so it's too bad it lacks age levels. If you are looking for a more up-to-date guide with more books and an age range for each book, try Great Books for Girls by Kathleen Odean, revised in 2002.

A reference to curl up with for adults and children.,

Great book! Steers you to old favorites and new finds via indices for author, title, date of pub, genre, region & subject. Recommended age ranges recognize the variation in reading development and draw you on to the next level. A fun book to read just on its own.

The best of the "Books for Girls" books,

I have about 3 "best books for girls" books and this is the best . . . . It has books not listed elsewhere and it lacks the overly earnest, kid-lit-as-feminist-tract tone that some reviewers take when evaluating books for girls. (I'm a feminist so please don't take this the wrong way.) Many of my five-year-old daughter's favorite books are listed in this guide.

Pretty Good Book,

This was another nice listing of recommended books. There were many books to choose from, such as Anne of Green Gables, The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, Missing May, and so much more! There are summaries for each book, along with the number of pages, the author, year it was published, and the genre or subject. My only complaint is that the book does not divide the book into specific categories. For example, there will be a chapter called "Moving On: Books for Ages 10 and Up", but it's not divided into historical fiction, biography, sports, or another subject. It would be easier to find books that way! Otherwise, it was a fantastic book!

Fabulous life-changing book for my daughter!,

Let's Hear it for the Girls inspired my daughter to read Anne of Green Gables and then she went on to read all of LM Montgomery's juvenile work plus one adult book of hers too! Now my daughter is reading Gone with the Wind! Your Let's Hear it moved her from the Babysitters Club to big fulfilling healthy books!

Good recommendations but lacks detail on age groups,
By A Customer
This review is from: Let's Hear It for the Girls: 375 Great Books for Readers 2-14 (Paperback)
This book offered a number of good selections, often books I would otherwise not have known about. I would have liked a more detailed breakdown of the recommended ages. For example, this books offers a list of recommended readings from ages 6-11 which covers a wide range, as does the range 10 and up. I would have preferred a more detailed breakdown of the appropriate age group.

Excellent resource if you buy books for girls, or'd like to!,

If you want to share or create a love of reading in girls this age, this book is an oustanding resource. It can also help you find unusual books, if you don't know what books they've already read. It can be especially helpful for buying for nieces and grandchildren, when we are out of their daily reading loops.
The format is easy to use, and the suggested titles are books that girls (and boys) will love to read

Could have been organized better.,

This review is from: Let's Hear It for the Girls: 375 Great Books for Readers 2-14 (Paperback)
I appreciated the recommendations made in this book, but I was hoping that the books would be organized according to age. As is, I cannot tell what is the appropriate age for any recommended book.
