I purchased this book, and found it helpful for exactly the purpose I intended: to pick up more vocabulary. It is a good way to associate the words with the items, not having to necessarily use English as a crutch. If you must see the English, it's there, but as a teacher of foreign languages, I find it much better to associate the new word with the item bypassing any translation. If you are new or fairly new to Portuguese, and you want some common words, this is your book.

This book is a great way to begin to teach children the Portuguese language or to even brush up on it for themselves. The pictures seem to make it easier to retain new words.

I'm Portuguese, and my godson is half Portuguese on his Mothers side. However, he's a bit reluctant to learn Portuguese, even though his maternal grandparents speak it around him all the time. I purchased this to try to get him to at least learn the basics.
The book ended up being a big hit at Christmas. When the entire family got together we all ended up taking turns reading the book...there are still some words that I don't use and that I didn't know, and a lot of the other family members were in the same boat. It turned out to be my Godson's favorite Christmas present. This is a very quality book and I'm sure anyone purchasing it will not be disappointed. In fact, you'll probably be pleasantly surprised as I was at how entertaining this book is when you thought you were just buying a reference book.
