From the Publisher

In this powerful yet subtle book, C. J. Sage takes the reader on a tour of songs and whispers that misses nothing. A profound vision, range, and insightfulness work perfectly with Sage's imagery and lyricism, making Let's Not Sleep a must have for any connoisseur of contemporary American poetry. There is an honest, concrete beauty here--sometimes lit in full bloom, sometimes peering though the darkness--that delights and surprises yet refuses to ignore reality.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, July 15, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Let's Not Sleep (Paperback)
It's a pretty good book. It's not a perfect book but then first poetry collections rarely are. But there are enough great poems in it. "Sonnet for Carryhouse and Keeper", "Habituation", "Song For A Red-Dyed Sunflower", "I, Woman", "Bridge Ghazal", "Birth Ghazal", "She Was Like Persephone", "Fawn Ghazal", "You Are Not A Poet", "Guilt", and "Rain Ghazal" are all excellent. And there are several other very good poems. And the two "sex poems" aren't really "sex" poems. They seem more about spiritual connection and good self-esteem. All in all I enjoyed the book and will hang on to it. I suspect that the next book will be truly excellent.
