Hooray for Love

Singer Saxophonist and Songwriter Curtis Stigers is somewhat of an endangered species in the music industry: he records the music he loves, for a label that supports him, and has had a successful career for over three decades deftly migrating through varied genres, and often merging them. Stigers’ exquisite voice and prolific songwriting has seen him trek through pop, jazz, blues, soul, ... Read more in Amazon's Curtis Stigers Store

Editorial Reviews

Singer/Saxophonist Curtis Stigers releases Let's Go Out Tonight, a departure from Stigers' previous projects, which sidesteped the Great American Songbook completely. Rather, it includes a vibrant cross-section of pop, folk, country and soul songs from songwriters ranging from Bob Dylan, Eddie Floyd and Richard Thompson to Jeff Tweedy, Hayes Carll and David Poe, whose "Everyone Loves Lovers" was crafted expressly for Stigers. Though jazz has been integral to Curtis Stigers' musical vocabulary throughout his career, his transformation from rock/pop headliner (of the sort that filled stadiums and made Leno and Letterman appearances) to jazz vocalist is barely a decade old, dating from the release of his debut Concord album Baby Plays Around in 2001.

5.0 out of 5 stars A new fan of Curtis Stigers July 17, 2012
By Margie
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I had the pleasure of seeing Curtis Stigers appear with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in July 2012 at an outdoor concert in Vail, Colorado. I was unfamiliar with his music prior to this concert, but after this terrific event I was hooked. He played several songs from this new album and I ordered a copy of it shortly after the concert. Before it arrived, I began to wonder whether out of the context of that special concert I might be disappointed, but that was not at all the case. This is terrific music.

With many albums, I find that there are one or two songs I really enjoy and others that are just so-so, but these songs are so uniformly enchanting that I cannot pick a favorite (or least favorite).

If you are new to Curtis Stigers, I recommend this as a great place to start. If you a long time fan (as were the folks next to us at the concert), I suspect that you'll also enjoy this.

Borrowed this off the Library shelf on a whim the other day, have played it 20 times since then. Definitely a keeper so I will be buying a copy. Excellent recording quality, the work went in before the label went on.

Prior to this CD, I was unaware of this performer, but now very favorably impressed. This is a top shelf product.

The only thing that could make this effort better; is the total elimination of any rhymes in the songs, to me its like having bubble gum stuck on the bottom of the table in the restaurant, not OK. Still a great effort.

I wish this CD the best!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best yet! April 25, 2012
By Amanda
Format:Audio CD
Been a fan of Curtis Stigers for 20 years. Have all the albums - and this is definitely the BEST in a very long time. Have had it on permaplay since bought it after a recent concert. Fantastic tracks with variety of moods. Brilliant instrumentals, vocals to die for and memorable lyrics - an all round good play. Track 5 - Into Temptation so reminds me of "the Ghost of you and me" from many years back. Can't recommend it enough. If you were a fan years ago & got a bit fed up with the over-indulgent jazz, this one will be for you. Must dash - it's playing again!!

5.0 out of 5 stars simply amazing April 27, 2012
Format:Audio CD
After about 5 spins, I am completely hooked. Every song brings something different to the table, yet, the album is very cohesive and easy to listen all the way through. Stand out tracks are Goodbye, Everyone Loves Lovers, Into Temptation and Chances Are - but each track is very good in its own right.

I didn't know most of the original tracks that Curtis covered here. I went ahead and sought them out, and it's incredible how much Curtis was able to transform these songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hope we go out again soon! January 1, 2014
Format:Audio CD
Wow, I'm so glad I didn't let this release pass me by. From the opening track, this CD has a much hipper vibe to it than previous releases, and Curtis' voice has a darker edge to it. I really enjoy the song selection too. This sort of reminds me of a gentler Tom Waits. I find myself playing it over and over again. Mr. Stigers, I sure hope we go out again tomorrow night, or at least in the near future, musically speaking, of course!

4.0 out of 5 stars Something different September 24, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
I heard Stigers on slacker singing "Things Have Changed", and I couldn't get the song out of my head. I went ahead and bought the whole album, and I have not regretted the decision. His voice and style are something much different than what most of the other musicians and singers are offering. The sound on the album itself is good on both headphones and speakers. The MP3 burns well onto CD, too.
