Grade 3-5-Splashy spreads full of vibrant color are the only selling points of these attractive titles. Both books feature a number of ideas for projects but have limited introductory material. The texts are confined to a few paragraphs per spread; most readers will need to rely heavily on the photographs for inspiration and understanding. Print uses only paint as its medium, making the two titles so similar that they could have easily been combined into one book. For example, "Vegetable Prints" are highlighted in Paint, while Print describes "Object Printing" with examples that include fruits and vegetables. Print also recommends oil paints but there is no mention of asking for adult assistance when using turpentine to clean up. There are a number of other books on these subjects that will make better choices. Michelle Powell's Printing (Search, 2000) and Kim Solga's Paint! (Northern Lights, 1991) are just two that come to mind.
