5.0 out of 5 stars Let's Party rules!, September 30, 2000
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Let's Party! (Fear Street Seniors, No. 1) (Paperback)
Let's Party is the first of the Seniors series, and so far one of the grossest. It isn't very exciting in the start, but like all R. L. Stine books gets better quickly. Trisha's party had me hooked - and it was gross!...

3.0 out of 5 stars A good start to a thrilling series!, March 14, 2007
This review is from: Let's Party! (Fear Street Seniors, No. 1) (Paperback)
"Lets Party" is the first book in a 12-part series, written by R.L. Stine. As a Jr. High Reading Teacher, I found this book to be age appropriate and interesting to kids 12-15. (Older kids may enjoy these books however).
The series follows the lives of a senior class, who all attend Shadyside High School. The author does a great job, of making sure all types of kids are represented, the rich, poor, jocks, nerds, etc.
This book opens with the ending of their Junior year, and summer is upon them. We meet most of the senior class, (most are mentioned by name)but the book focuses on three storylines.
The first storyline features, Josh Maxwell, who hangs out with his friends Mickey and Matty. Josh had been going out with Debra Lake, however now Debra is spending a considerable, amount of time with creepy Clark Dickson. Who everyone nicknamed "Count Clarkula" due to his vampirish outlook. Is Clark really a vampire? Who is calling Josh and threatening him, warning him to stay away from Debra? This storyline last through the entire book.
The second storyline, features Josh step-sister Josie, who is upset with her Math teacher, Mr. Torkelson. She gets together with fellow seniors, Deidre Palmer, and Jennifer Fear. They cast a doom spell on their teacher.
Here is where the plot unfolds. Josie unwittingly casts a "Doom Spell" on the entire senior class. This sets the stage for the rest of the books in the series.
Third, another senior, rich girl Trisha Conrad, has a vision, of all the Seniors in their coffins at graduation day. Is this just a bad dream or a prophecy set in stone?
Trisha has a huge party (Hence the name of the book) and invites most of the Senior class. Here a murder game is played, is it just pretend or does someone take things too far? We also see the love interests, the rivalries, and the friendships, that are very typical of young people.
"Let's Party" ends with a couple of cliff hangers, which keeps the readers interest.
It is important for readers new to this book, to understand that this is a series, and not all their questions will be answered. They need to read the entire series. This is a pretty good book, that sets the stage quite well.

Warning Spoilers!!

Now for the criticism!

There is no deaths, for a series, that comes off as a "Who will survive" thriller, nobody dies! The only death is Mr. Torkelson, the Math Teacher, in a freak car accident. I felt R.L. Stine could of gotten the ball rolling and had one or two characters knocked off.

The vampire storyline, starts out promising, but then at the end of the book (and I mean the end!) the reader finds out the threatening phone calls were made by Matty, (his friend and the comedian of the Senior Class)as a joke. It's almost as if Stine didn't know where to go with this, so he decided to throw that in there to put an end to it. I found it insulting to the reader.

3.0 out of 5 stars this is a party?, June 20, 2006
This review is from: Let's Party! (Fear Street Seniors, No. 1) (Paperback)
R.L. STINE BROKE OFF OF HIS USUAL CHILDREN HORROR STORIES AND ATTEMPTED TO WRITE A SERIES FOR HIGH SCHOOLERS. THIS BOOK BEGINS THE SENIORS SERIES. IT LEADS OFF WITH A END OF JUNIOR YEAR PARTY. THE HOST OF THE PARTY HAS A VISION AND SHE SEES ALL THE SENIORS LAYING IN COFFINS. THE STUDENTS DON'T BELIEVE HER, BUT THEN JOSIE CASTS A SPELL THAT KILLS HER TEACHER, AND EVENTUALLY, A SCENE ARAISES WHERE THE STUDENTS MIGHT JUST END UP THE COFFINS. IS THERE A WAY FOR JOSIE TO RIGHT ALL THE WRONG SHE DID? OR IS THE SENIOR CLASS DOOMED?
THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THIS SERIES AND HIS OTHERS IS THAT THIS IS ONE IS WRITTEN FOR A MORE MATURE GROUP, NOT OLDER TEENS, BUT EARLY HIGHSCHOOLER MIGHT ENJOY THIS SERIES.
