5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Quilts for Kids BIG or SMALL!, December 30, 2008
This review is from: Let's Pretend: Whimsical Quilts for Kids (That Patchwork Place) (Paperback)
Our guild makes quilts for sick kids so we are always looking for new and different patterns to peak their interest. LET'S PRETEND hits the spot for us. I have come to love appliqué as it is something I can do sitting in front of the TV at night. These quilt blocks will fit right in to that pleasure for me.

The book begins with 14 pages of basics and appliqué how-to techniques. There are seven patterns. Stars, Jungle, Spring Showers, Fish and Sails, Mermaids, Wizardry and a Party theme make up the range of quilts. Something for every child (or an adult who still loves the things of childhood) is presented here.

The patterns begin with a color photo and quilt and block sizes are given. Material and cutting lists are clear and easy to read and follow. The Assembly instructions contain graphics for the visual person in a quilter. Full size templates are included. Assembly and finishing are the last pieces of the instructions. A sewing tip or appliqué cutting key is given with each project as well.

On the final page of the book you will find a short bio about the author and her cute Yorkie, Stanley! I can't wait to get started on one of these terrific quilts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Color Explosion for all ages!, April 7, 2009

I was looking forward to seeing a new book by Cynthia T. and was delighted to see that "Let's Pretend"'s focus is on children, although the explosions of color from the featured quilts will brighten the day for 'children' of all ages.
I have all the author's books and enjoy them immensely. The designs are pretty in some instances, striking and bold in others, and always creative. Directions are precise, patterns are clear and uncomplicated, and the designs can be used in their entirety or in components, something I particularly like. In "Let's Pretend" I have 2 particular favorites, Spring Showers and Hocus Pocus. The former will definitely be made soon for my granddaughter who loves to wear her rain slicker and boots, but another of the same will be made for me because it's perfect for a mud room or entry area as a seasonal wall hanging. 'Hocus Pocus', the quilt featured on the book's cover, will be my follow-up quilt. I see springtime when I look at it, with the tumble of flowers and the rabbit (unlike those rascally rabbits who ravage my flower and vegetable gardens!) popping out of the hat. This is a fun addition to your quilting library (or start to your library).

5.0 out of 5 stars Something different instead of the usual cutsey children's quilts!, June 7, 2009
This review is from: Let's Pretend: Whimsical Quilts for Kids (That Patchwork Place) (Paperback)
I have been following this author for some time now and am always impressed with her directions and percise instructions on how to make the quilts in her books. I am getting ready to make a quilt for my grand neice and absolutely love her choices! I love the bright colors but you can always make them in whatever colors suit you. This book is a great addition to the other books she has out. I highly recommend it.
