5.0 out of 5 stars She keeps getting better!!, April 10, 2004

This review is from: Let's Put the Western Back in the Country (Audio CD)
Joni's newest effort once again shows us what a tremendous writer AND performer she is. "Let's Put the Western Back in the Country" is amusing and sobering at the same time. All her songs paint pictures: listening to THE WIND is like watching a movie; COWBOY UP contains the "basic" lesson in life; MURPHY'S LAW has a sweet message which gives us all a smile at the end. Joni's wholesome thoughts and approach toward life expand beyond western, country, or any other type of music. When I'd first listened to "Cowgirl Dreams" I was so awestruck that I wanted more of her music. Now I have all 9 albums and impatiently await the creation and release of the next. Thumbs Up, Joni. Keep 'em coming, Cowgirl friend!!

5.0 out of 5 stars TOP NOTCH, March 28, 2004

I can't say enough of Joni and her music. This album is excellent. She knows how to bring out the best in people.
She praises values of friendship, love and honesty and she knows what she's talking about.
My favorite songs on this album, to quote a few, are Coyote Café, Oregon Trail, Shape of my Heart, A little bit of Love, Let's put the Western Back in the Country.
Cowboy up, she co-wrote with Wood Newton is a real hit too, a softer version of Chris Ledoux interpretation.
Top notch album! Thanks Joni

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply superb music!, June 22, 2004

Joni's found the happy medium here, preserving the authentic western sound she loves and lives, while keeping up with the times. Man, this is a super album. The fans of the very traditional Western sound will love the title cut, as well as "Cowboy Up", "I've Got A Feeling For You", and others, while listeners raised on Top 40 radio will feel right at home with "Shape Of My Heart", "A Little Bit Of Love", "Murphy's Law", and others. (Though most of the stuff on the Top 40 these days doesn't sound half as good as this!) This is a beautifully written, produced, and performed album.

Heartfelt thanks to amazon.com, which first recommended Joni's music to me. I would probably never have heard her without reading about here here. And, yes, she fits right in with Terri Clark, Anita Cochran, Heather Myles, and other fun, fearless female singers I love, just as Amazon said she would.

At a time when it is hard to hear country in country and western music, it has been harder still to hear the western! I love the title track to this album as it really hits the nail on the head. Listen up music producers out there; we're still here! Joni writes and performs music we're all hungry to hear but is impossible to find on the radio. Fortunately, there are a few of us diehards on the internet that allow the rest of us to catch a glimpse of what has always been great music. Joni's voice, mix of songs, and outstanding musicians create a listening experience worth looking for. In this CD I have found songs that are not only fresh but are true to the ideals that are close to hers and a lot of America's heart. Thanks, Joni, for stickin' to your guns as I will be returning for more and spreadin' the word!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, February 15, 2009

I'm not much of a country fan, although I like the songs of Merle Haggard, Don Williams and some blue grass. I'm not sure where Joni Harms fits in with this bunch, but I can tell you that I like this album a lot. I just got it in the mail and I've played 3 times already. The writing and arrangements are excellent and I like listening to Joni's voice. I get the sense she really sounds like that in person and I appreciate that the tracks are not over-produced. Every once in a while I stop on the country station on the radio, and it's not long before I've changed it because it sounds all the same and mass produced.

This album is very easy to listen to - if you can find it! I was listening to [...] and heard her music and decided to buy this album. I found the CD online and if her other albums are anything like this one, I'll be happy.

5.0 out of 5 stars The modern voice of western music, August 8, 2007
This review is from: Let's Put the Western Back in the Country (Audio CD)
Joni Harms continues to paint a positive picture of the American West the way it ought to be. Her voice is never better than it is on this release, and her songwriting continues to inspire. The title cut is a catchy tune that could easily get country dance halls a-movin', and the poetic "Coyote Cafe" is one of the best entries she's recorded. This CD is proof positive that there are still people making good western music. Joni takes it to a new level here.
