Just a great roots cd. Every serious rock, blues, or jazz musician should have this in their collection.

So Very Pure,

I haven't heard anything like this in years. Those of you who have ever attended the Holiness church are familiar with this type of singing. Self taught musicians and self ordained clergy. It's a rhythm of true worship originating from the days of slavery. I knew women like Sister Morgan as a child. All dressed in white and referred to as "Mothers of the Church." They were older women whose only interest was now Jesus Christ. They were "Brides of Christ"; it's based on Scripture. To enjoy Sister Morgan's music one must comprehend what she's striving to achieve. She was in the business of "Saving Souls". Enjoy and hear her truly being overcome with the "Spirit". Gospel music in it's purest form.

One disc,48 min. approximately. Remastered sound. This is the sound of old-time god-fearing gospel music,as only someone who is a total evangelist could produce. Sister Gertrude Morgan lived in New Orleans, where she dedicated her life to God and spreading the word to all who would receive it. Recorded live in the late sixties, her expressive voice and conviction shines through all these tracks. Accompanied by only her tambourine, her mission is to spread her word, which she does very convincingly. This is music that is seldom heard today, especially in a solo format. This is music that is so powerful there's little room for any kind of doubt. Isn't that what, ultimately, this music is all about? This is the real deal-nothing fancy-just voice, tambourine, and a mountain of conviction. Be sure you purchase the solo tracks and not the updated version by King Britt, which incorporates a number of musicians added onto the original tracks at a later date to mixed results.
