More About the Author

Danae Dobson recently completed her second nonfiction project entitled Let's Walk the Talk. This inspirational book is a sequel to her former publication for adolescent girls entitled Let's Talk! Danae is also active in her speaking ministry, addressing women at church-related events such as banquets, teas, and conferences. She is also involved in seminars for teens and speaks to children at Christian schools. Danae was born in Southern California and wrote her first children's manuscript, Woof! A Bedtime Story about a Dog, at the age of twelve. Upon publication, she became the youngest author in the twenty-five-year history of that publishing house. It's a title that she still holds today. In 1990 she received her bachelor's degree in communication from Azusa Pacific University. She has authored twenty-three books to date, including the popular Woof series that was spun off of her original story. These best-selling books have sold more than 400,000 copies and have also been released in the United Kingdom and Indonesia. Other works include Parables for Kids (coauthored with Dr. James Dobson), the Forest Friends series, and the Sunny Street Kids' Club series. Danae has appeared on The 700 Club and Time for Hope, and she has been a guest on more than one hundred radio broadcasts, including Minirth Meier and Focus on the Family. She has also been a featured speaker at the Christian Booksellers Association, Hawaiian Islands Ministries, MOPS, and numerous Christian schools. Danae is the daughter of Dr. James and Shirley Dobson of Focus on the Family ministry, and has a younger brother, Ryan, who is also an author, a speaker, and an Internet radio host. 5.0 out of 5 stars Talking Up Let's Talk!, August 23, 2004
By
Lynn D. Morrissey "Lynn D. Morrissey" (St. Louis, Missouri United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Let's Talk! Good Stuff for Girlfriends About God, Guys, and Growing Up (Paperback)
Where was Danae Dobson when I was a teenager in the sixties? I certainly could have used her sage counsel during that turbulent decade. I recently purchased her new book Let's Talk, as a
graduation gift for my niece, and ended up reading it cover to cover myself. I was captivated. Dobson has penned a teenage treasure chest-a creative compendium of important insights
teenage girls need to know about God, guys, girlfriends, and growing up. With wisdom that belies her own youthful years, Dobson has filled this tiny tome with a plethora of inspiration
about everything from peer pressure to parents to personal relationships with God-and more! Her brownie story alone (which takes the cake!) is worth the price of the book! Good writing
may run in the Dobson family, but clearly Danae Dobson has found her own voice and uses it to sound a clarion call for teenage girls. If they harken it, they will navigate the teen-age years
successfully with the grace, wisdom, and blessing of God. This book is a must-read for both teenagers and those who love them.
-Lynn D. Morrissey, author of Love Letters to God: Deeper Intimacy through Written Prayer and AWSA/CLASS speaker

4.0 out of 5 stars Recommended, November 25, 2007

This review is from: Let's Talk! Good Stuff for Girlfriends About God, Guys, and Growing Up (Paperback)
Although this book is listed as a "youth" book targetted to "teenagers" in junior high and high school, the language/writing style seem more accessible to older high school, college (and even some post-college women).

The topics/content of the book is overall very solid, and i pretty much agree with her take on most topics except some of what she says regarding if its ok to flirt and date might be taken the wrong way.

But overall I would recommend the book especially for someone 14-18yo. The content is good even for college age girls, but she does have several references to "teenager" or junior high.

I like how she is open and up front of about a lot of issues that many girls face, and I was suprised that she seemed aware about subtleties of issues/pressures girls face.

I like how the end of each 3 page chapter ends with devotiona, application or "get you to think" questions.

Her target audience is definitely christians (or at least people who claim to be christian), because her overall approach is "you are a christian, so do what god wants but don't do sin.

She approaches the book as a big sister giving advice to a younger sister. she does so by illustrating her moralizing with her personal stories and experiences of friends

she definitely touches uopon the issue about guys and sex, which I think is good that she brings it up, but I don't think she did a perfect job with that, but overall acceptable.

I like how she definitely talked about not bowing into peer pressure, being self confident and sticking to own morals, and also fleeing from temptation
