Book Description

10 and up5 and up
As girls, we all need someone to talk to. Someone who’s been where we are, who can offer friendly advice, who gets us. And when you’re a teen, you really need a go-to girlfriend as you face issues like family dilemmas, peer pressure, changing friendships, body image, and all the other things that you might not feel totally comfortable talking to your parents about. That’s where Danae Dobson comes in. In this follow-up to her best-selling book Let’s Talk!, Danae shares her positive, Christ-centered insights on all the stuff that teens encounter today. Speaking girlfriend-to-girlfriend in her trademark “big sister” style, Danae encourages teens on their walk, reminds them they’re not alone, and inspires them to keep the faith.

More About the Author

Danae Dobson recently completed her second nonfiction project entitled Let's Walk the Talk. This inspirational book is a sequel to her former publication for adolescent girls entitled Let's Talk! Danae is also active in her speaking ministry, addressing women at church-related events such as banquets, teas, and conferences. She is also involved in seminars for teens and speaks to children at Christian schools. Danae was born in Southern California and wrote her first children's manuscript, Woof! A Bedtime Story about a Dog, at the age of twelve. Upon publication, she became the youngest author in the twenty-five-year history of that publishing house. It's a title that she still holds today. In 1990 she received her bachelor's degree in communication from Azusa Pacific University. She has authored twenty-three books to date, including the popular Woof series that was spun off of her original story. These best-selling books have sold more than 400,000 copies and have also been released in the United Kingdom and Indonesia. Other works include Parables for Kids (coauthored with Dr. James Dobson), the Forest Friends series, and the Sunny Street Kids' Club series. Danae has appeared on The 700 Club and Time for Hope, and she has been a guest on more than one hundred radio broadcasts, including Minirth Meier and Focus on the Family. She has also been a featured speaker at the Christian Booksellers Association, Hawaiian Islands Ministries, MOPS, and numerous Christian schools. Danae is the daughter of Dr. James and Shirley Dobson of Focus on the Family ministry, and has a younger brother, Ryan, who is also an author, a speaker, and an Internet radio host. Danae resides in Southern California.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for Teen Girls!, October 26, 2009
This review is from: Let's Walk the Talk!: Girlfriend to Girlfriend on Faith, Friendship, and Finding Real Love (Paperback)
I have not read this entire book - but let me tell you why. I wasn't even through the first chapter before I went and found my 15 year old daughter and told her that this was a book that I wanted to read with her. What I wouldn't have given to have a book (or a friend) like this when I was a teenager. Luckily, my daughter still talks to me about everything - or so she says - but even so, there is so much going on in school these days that I would have been shocked by 25 years ago, that a lot of times I am floundering right beside her. But let me tell you a little more about the book.

The chapters are not very long - about 10 pages each, with a couple of those pages being answers from teens or people who work with teens to a question that has been posed relating to the chapter. So in this aspect, if we take a chapter every day or every 2 days, it should move along pretty quickly. There are discussion questions at the end of each chapter which should open up some great conversations for me to have with my daughter. I figure if I just gave her the book to read, she would just skip these questions, like so many of us would if we didn't have someone keeping us accountable.

The book also has wonderful scripture references that are so pertinent to each chapter! There are things that I still stumble with as an adult where these scriptures will also help me on! It is also written in such an easy to understand language, and it doesn't sound judgemental at all. I even found much of it humorous as she will set up a situation and pretty much say - this is how I messed it up - and with what I know now - this is how I would handle it. Some of the topics covered are modesty, outward appearance, kissing, material things, bad language, relationship with your parents - well, you get the picture. All those things that are important or relevant in young girls lives today. If you have a daughter, sister, niece, granddaughter, friend that is between the ages of 12-20 - I would definitely recommend this book to her. I can't wait to get more into it with my daughter!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Teens and Tweens, December 16, 2009
This review is from: Let's Walk the Talk!: Girlfriend to Girlfriend on Faith, Friendship, and Finding Real Love (Paperback)
I didn't realize that this book was created for teens. Obviously I quickly caught on. While my daughters are barely in 1st grade..this will be a book that I will keep for them as they get older.

Danae Dobson creates an environment in her book that allows young girls to understand the complexities that our "modern" society offers while explaining the "true love" and "devotion" that our God in Heaven offers.

Let's Walk the Talk doesn't tip top around the challenges of growing up but rather meets them directly and head on in a forthright, caring manner. It truly is as if Danae is taking the role of the older sister to the young women she has in mind in her writings.

Even though it has been many years since I have been a teen...I still found gently reminders and insight how it is important for me as a women to remember to Walk the Talk.

It is a pleasure to know that there is a young writer sharing her faith and directions to young women when they need it the most...the teenage years. Let's Walk the Talk!: Girlfriend to Girlfriend on Faith, Friendship, and Finding Real Love

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good concept, October 27, 2009
This review is from: Let's Walk the Talk!: Girlfriend to Girlfriend on Faith, Friendship, and Finding Real Love (Paperback)
This was a great concept. The author talks to the reader person to person. Included are personal views from different interviewees, and then some questions to focus on. I will be sharing this with my daughter in a few years.
