An excellent album,

I've had this album for several years now and am also familiar with Benoits earlier more "poppish" work. Letter to Evan is more mainstream oriented than most of his previous works. This however does not detract from what is truly a beautiful album. If you enjoyed "Waiting for Spring" you'll love this album, which I'd say is slightly more up tempo. I saw David Benoit live in London in 1996 and at the show (in a tiny club) he said that of all his compositions to that point, "Letter to Evan" was his favourite, and then he went on to play it. Live and in the flesh! A great musician and a very recommendable album.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if this genre of music were more widely disseminated. In my opinion this is Benoit at his finest. Bravo and encore, please!!

I am writing this in the hopes that David Benoit will read it. David: please, please, please give us, your fans, more of this music! For me, it is your crowning achievement.

David Benoit did this Cd mainly for a friend, Bill Evans. He died while his son was about 16. Letter to Evan and Knit for Mary F. are Bill Evan's compostions.Waiting for love is a guitar based song at the beginning, then it moves into piano. Looking over eastlake. Wow. Its great! It so jazzy and complex, and not to mention fun to listen to. Take 6. Thats a great one to. This is a relly good, album by David Benoit. GO FOR IT!

To be able to put Bill Evans son Evan in your title you have to be very good indeed. Evan Evans never really knew his dad, so David does a tribute of sorts for Evan and the result is impressive. Davids touch, a little George Winston with some Bruce Hornsby and we have a marvelous cd. A wordly rendition...

Letter to Evan is the best piece of music I've heard for a long time. I do not tire of listening to this man.

It's a shame this work is only available through the Amazon affiliates. Its a very nice work, as another reviewer said, similar to Waiting for Spring. The reason I chose to review this piece is because there are actually two works on it that touched me. Letter to Evan was Bill Evan's musical letter to his son Evan upon passing away. But the piece that touched me personally was On Golden Pond. It reminds me of my father, who also passed away. I personally don't really care for DB's smooth jazz works, just these more touching ones. His graceful, melodic hand on the piano is what has really caused him to stand out through the years. This is especially true, again, on this work.

After reading the other reviews, I had to write a review for this CD. I am a long time David Benoit fan, but I find this CD the least enjoyable Benoit CD that I own. It is a significant departure from his other work. The music is much more paced and sombre. There are songs I like on this CD, but when compared to earlier offerings like: 'This Side Up', 'Every Step of The Way', or 'Inner Motion', this CD is disappointing. Save your money and buy 'This Side Up' (his best work) instead!
