Professional Quality Indie,
By Thornton F. Cole "evilsailor9" (Chicago or an airport near you) - See all my reviews

Extremely well-produced album by Cleveland underground superstars Brandtson. This album rocks very hard and very soft at the same time. Sonic explosions erupt out of quiet harmonics from beginning to end. This band sounds like Hum on truth serum. Deep Elm (Triplefastaction, Camber, Muckafurgason, Pave the Rocket) keeps bringing some of the U.S.'s best indie bands to the public.

A good debut,
By philster (Georgia) - See all my reviews

Debut albums are always interesting... they usually show lots of raw potential, but rarely are truly groundbreaking. In Brandtson's case, Letterbox is totally different from the emo power pop they excell at today, and is more of a post hardcore rock ablum. This is more for fans of older Jawbreaker, Quicksand, and Hum. The first six songs on here are absolutely amazing, with "Blindspot" being the standout. The last four songs tend to lag behind, getting bogged down in distortion and plain melodies, and failing to vary themselves. Lyrically, this album is awesome, and the dual vocalists deliver the words quite well. This album is certainly worth the price for "Blindspot" and "Words for You" alone, and there are other gems. However, compared to the other Brandtson albums, there's obviously lots of growth that had not occured at this point in the band's career.
