Absolutely wonderful,

When I saw this book at my local bookstore, it was the illustrations that first made me take notice, but it was the poetry that made me decide I had to have it. Now, after several reads, I cannot decide which is more magical, the pictures or the words. (Usually whichever I happen to be looking at at the moment.)
The animal depictions are wonderfully original and the poems to describe them are absolutely beautiful: some of them very moving, some of them light and fun. This is not an alphabet book for little ones first learning their letters, but there is a brilliantly captured nostalgia for the genre that could certainly be appreciated both by older children and adults. |
